Spoilers Star Trek Beyond

Captain59

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I just came home from seeing Star Trek Beyond, and
as Enterprise fans, it's a must see. No, the ultimate did not happen, but it was juicy full of ENT references. I actually missed a big one that's going to make me go see it again.

I saw it as well. Loved it.
There is at least one TNG reference as well.

I see you're a Kellie Waymire fan. I am too. she, like Anton left us too soon.

MIND THE SPOILER TAGS. Thank you for using them in-thread, but remember, If you start a thread that will or might have spoilers, use the SPOILERS prefix in the thread title as well, or add [SPOILERS] to your title.

Also, ANYTHING that could be characterized as a spoiler should be hidden by tags. I have amended the previous 2 posts. When in doubt, put it behind tags.

Please read this for spoiler reminders.

My mind was blown by
the detailed Star Trek: Enterprise references
. Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, you make me proud.

Edison was a MACO before joining Starfleet!
He mentions the Xindi attack from "The Expanse"!
He mentions the Romulan war!
After the MACOs were disbanded, Starfleet made him (then a Colonel) captain of the USS Franklin NX-326.
The Franklin was a prototype ship, the first to reach warp 4, which means it's construction pre-dates Enterprise NX-01. Her armament consists of pulsed phase canons and spacial torpedos. They polarise the hull plating! The ship went missing in the 2260's (several possible explanations are given for how she got so far), hence the "USS" designation. Edison hated the idea of the Federation and resented making peace with former enemies.

EDITED TO ADD: Scotty also mentions that ships of the era were built in space and weren't designed for atmospheric flight, let alone a take off after a crash landing.

The dedication plaque lists her as "Starship class", like the TOS Enterprise's.

Mind = blown.

Bit more I remembered:

The transporter was meant for cargo only ("Broken Bow" reference!), but Scotty managed to modify it beam up to 20 people at once.

Look here gang, you don't seem to be getting the point of what we mean by "anything that could be considered a spoiler." That means "anything that might spoil a surprise." Even if your topic sentences seem innocuous to you, someone else might consider them spoiling A SURPRISE. So don't do this anymore unless you put it behind tags, as I have done. AGAIN.

I'm going to start handing out warnings if you don't get with the program. Please exercise all caution for the first two weeks, as stated in the pinned spoiler warning thread here. Yes, I have put the spoiler prefix in the title, but I would rather err on the side of caution for now. Thanks.

^^ I appreciate the extra work I'm asking you to do for now. After I've seen the movie, and I don't have to police spoilers without reading them  I'll make it a bit easier on y'all. Thanks.

I am curious, why are spoiler tags nessarasy at all in a thread titled SPOILERS? I realize this has been edited since it was first created. But this debate crops up now and again across this whole forum.

If a thread is properly labeled Spoilers I think within it actual tags are unneeded. By that thinking the whole thread should be tagged. Which means people who do not want to read the content do not need to ever look in it...

One more thing:
The asteroid field beyond Yorktown is very reminiscent of the one in "Impulse"

I was a fan of Enterprise in it original run. I was aware of these spoilers before the movie 's release. It certainly motivated me to see it at the earliest showing on Thursday night. Very glad I did!

The thread title did not have a spoiler warning when originally posted, so I've had to back-engineer it. That's why we started out with spoiler tags in-thread.

To address the debate: when a thread has specific spoilers--such as the thread in Star Trek XI+ about the uniforms in STB--then it makes sense to put the spoiler warning in the title, freeing the posters to post at will in-thread about the uniforms, using spoiler tags only when they go off-topic to discuss some non-uniformy spoiler. But we have a general title here encompassing the entire movie, so it's a little tougher to parse tiny spoilers that may not ruin a member's viewing experience ("ENT is referenced in Star Trek Into Darkness!"), and big whoppers ("Leonard Nimoy surprise cameo as Spock in Star Trek Into Darkness!"). In my experience, I would not have minded (too much, anyway) if I ran across the former, while I would have been sorely pissed to accidentally catch sight of the latter. As I said before, I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Maybe some of this stuff has been publicized in the news prior to the movie's opening. But I am one of those who has stayed away from all mention of the film other than the previews, so I would be surprised, and spoiled, to see anything beyond what is in the trailers.

So for this one thread, just bear with the spoiler-tagging for a couple of weeks. It's easy to add spoiler tags with the spoiler button in the text box, a few clicks, a few extra seconds, and everyone is safe. And there's always the Star Trek XI+ forum.

Read more about spoiler warnings here and please follow these guidelines for a couple of weeks to avoid warnings.

Thank you for the "spoilers"! I wasn't going to see the movie (I was gonna wait to download it a few months from now ) But as an Enterprise fan, I think I now HAVE to see it.

The 22nd-century jumpsuit uniforms were not the same as the jumpsuits depicted in ENT.

Regarding spoilers ...
I do not understand the "hyperventilation" some fans get about a show or feature being "ruined" if even a tiny snippet of information gets released.
If you want to see it, you'll see it, regardless of what you may or may not have learned about it beforehand.
If I want to see a picture, even if I know the plot going in, I'll still see it; for performances; visuals, music, et al.
Years ago, when novelizations of big movies were the "in" thing, sometimes these books would appear before the movie came out; yes, I would read ahead.
Didn't hurt my appreciation for the movie in the slightest.
It seems "spoiler" has become a catch-phrase of the 21st century. I've even seen it used in professional op-ed columns of respected newspapers!
People, you'll see it, and see it again, and again. Surprises are for birthdays, not media!
Move along, nothing to see here ... .

This is going to make rewatching Season 3 interesting... trying to spot any unnamed MACO crew member, who fits and could end up becoming this particular character from Beyond.

He was a Major by the founding of the Federation, and after the Romulan War they rewarded him a Captaincy. So taking part in the Xindi War, 7-8 years before that, could only really place them aboard the NX-01. He'd be of a lower rank at the time, subordinate to Major Hayes and Lieutenant Reed.

Yeah, obviously not going to find Idris Elba there in 2003/4. He was already a big deal in The Wire at the time!

Incidentally I think you could call what happens at the end of Season 2, an act of war. I mean we've been involved in a so called War on Terror for a while now... A military man who saw fighting off in a distant land, would call it like it is. Certainly the millions who lost family between Florida and Venezuela, could strongly claim it was a war.

the ultimate? :vulcan:
Scott Bakula, Connor Trinneer, Jolene Blalock cameos for Captain59 I suspect. Jeffrey Combs back in Andorian make-up for me certainly. Which don't happen. So I don't need to tag them, right? :D

Not exactly. But clearly based on them, and envisioned to be their replacements, when Earth Starfleet and the MACOs merged into the Federation. Within a year or two after "These are the Voyages..."
