Yup, after all the deductions, the figure I'm going with could even be sub-$150m but I suspect we'll get $165m as the 'official' budget.
Getting money back from Canada and maybe Dubai; reduces your spending.
Getting money from partners like Alibaba does mean some profits now have to be shared.
I'm all for these measure though as it means we're more likely to get a 4th new movie.
Nahh STB is going to be fine. Regardless of a disappointing US box office open, the Chinese market almost guarantees it really, especially if it comes anywhere close to doing as well as STiD did.
I recall a Trekcore article where someone said the film's budget was "over $200 million" - although we also know from one of the Justin Lin interviews that "money was spent" on Bob Orci's abandoned script (I recall Trekmovie.com saying they were doing pre-vis of action scenes) and I wonder if the final budget for Star Trek Beyond will have the Orci-script spendings included, akin to The Motion Picture's budget including spending from the unmade Phase II TV series.

I think there are some countries that get it before the 21
and then there are those who went to the fan event and got a pass for the premierere in the usa that is on july 20
I'm trying to avoid watching these because I would like to get more enjoyment out of the movie. Still, I think the marketing for this movie has been better than the last two Trek films. Really can't wait till the 21st now.
Agreed. I've suddenly gone from "meh, I might check it out if it's good" to "these next two weeks are going to be very slow".

Why are expectations so low? I still consider that STB will be a good movie. I think the audience has shown an interest in seeing it. Are these projections reliable? Should I worry about this?

I am not worried at this stage. These projections don't account for the new trailer, Rihanna's single or all the TV spots we're seeing now.

The 2nd, as STiD took less than ST09 domestically, then 'logic' assumes STB will do even less.
