Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

How many minutes until the obligatory negative comments about:

1. A popular pop-stars music being associated with a "cerebral, mature property like ST"
2. The motorcycle
3. An over-abundance of combustion/explosions

Haha.. ;)

I think this looks quite good! The trailer gave me goosebumps. Pretty excited!

If having a good time at the movies means I'm not intelligent, then I'm not intelligent.

This movie looks like a winner.
Oh, no no no no. You are NOT allowed to have a good time seeing a Star Trek movie. This has to be sobering, thoughtful treatise on the human condition, fraught with heavy handed morality, and it must involve at least one reference to either an opera, or a classical music piece without any irony whatsoever. To do anything else is to shame Gene Roddenberry, the man who would never have accepted any of this so called capitalism and popularism from the unwashed casuals. You just wait until all the angry fans who are upset with CBS over the fan production guidelines have their say! No one will see this film. NO ONE! TEH FANS HAVE SPOEKEN!!!!10NE11!!!

Sorry, I couldn't help it, I was on that Fort Collins comic con page this morning, where the moderator of the site accused me of every fallacy in the book.

Don't feel too bad. They were none too kind to my comment either.
Eh, I laid down my argument just now that nothing he says will matter on July 22nd, and that a niche of a niche of a fan base does not represent all fans, nor true fans. I should now get another 6 paragraphs on my fallacious argument. Some people could suck the fun out of a room just by walking into it. These are those people.

It's also odd that none of them seem to remember the Paramount purge of the late 1990s, and yet here we are today with a new blockbuster Star Trek film on our hands. Odd, that. ;)

Anyway, back on topic. This trailer leaves chills up and down my spine. It is so damn good! July 22nd can't get here soon enough!

I'm absolutely not happy that they already showed the destruction of the swarm in this trailer...

Otherwise extremely nice visuals. This is by far the best Trek movie to show actual 3D movement in space, and have more "realistic" imagery. The song is... okay? I kind'a like more contemptuary music in Star Trek. Was really pleasantly surprised to hear the Beastie Boys in Trek09. But that's personal taste. Rihanna is not exactly my favourite artist, but an exclusive song is nice, and it works well enough with Justin Lin's style.

Add to that: Chris Pine's new hair style (reminiscent of the more traditional TOS Shat-doo), but probably a hold over from his work in Finest Hours.

Well, I've just listened to Rihanna's Sledgehammer. It's not bad, but not really memorable either. If this song weren't attached to Star Trek I wouldn't give a shit about it. Since it is related to Star Trek, I'll probably give it higher status than it deserves. They've could have done better, but they could also have done much, much worse.

Is it my impression or the bridge is darker in this trailer? Without Lens Flare?
Yes. Read in one of the many interviews w Karl Urban I think Justin Lin wanted to bring space to them q a darker bridge. That JJs bridge was lit up to the hilt etc. N he wanted a change. Hoping lens flares are history

Hairstyles don't carry over from different movies. Whatever the 'do in this film, it was by design.

It's not only duller, but with more blue rather than the red highlighting in the previous two movies. Which I suppose fits with the study that came out this year to say blue LED light keeps people awake whereas red makes them sleepy. Don't need the bridge crew nodding off on long shifts.

The corridors look like they're redesigned, but keep the same level of lighting as does most of the rest of the ship we've seen.

The Franklin gets a very green dispay effect, partly I think to gave a visual difference but the 80's/90's greentext "old technology" feeling.

I just watched The City on the Edge of Forever n Operation Annihilate and hair is closer to Shat w Pine having a more robost hair line so looks a little different

LOVE crew us off ship wearing TOS style-ish unis vs changing every time......

A year ago I was not very excited about seeing Beyond, but with each subsequent trailer I've gotten more and more hyped. This last one is fantastic. And the Rihanna song? Pretty damn good too!

While I like the Rhianna song, and think that it fits with the movie (like Adelle's "Skyfall" song being a fit for a Bond film), I think, as far as this trailer is concerned, an instrumental version would have been more appropriate. I do wonder what the music video version will be like, considering that Rhianna is clearly dressed up in alien garb (like Katy Perry was in her own music video, "ET").
