Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

The people at the fan event are getting to see the trailer right now. We'll hear about it shortly, and then the official trailer will be released today (it's 12:02 AM here right now).

I have to say that Periscope.tv is just the worst. I had to refresh every 30 seconds because it would freeze, and it sure as hell isn't my 50 Mbps internet connection.
I have 100Mbps speed and it worked pretty well most of the time.

Mine wasn't too bad, until it spiked to like 1000 viewers. The Buzzfeed one was utter crap though. But that's kind of par for the course for Buzzfeed.
For me it didn't matter whether the viewers were 500 or 1000, it would just freeze and stay that way unless I reloaded the page. I had to watch it on my monitor, because I can't get periscope.tv on my phone, as it's a Windows phone. So maybe that had something to do with it, I don't know.

Oh good not just my satellite Internet then.
Yeah, I have 50 Mbps Time Warner Cable with a 1 ms ping. There was no major network congestion on this end.

Just to clarify...

Most studios release a trailer at lunch time on Tuesdays/Wednesdays to get the most of active word of mouth.

Paramount chose a Friday night, late in the evening, to hold a 'fan event' for an exclusive look of the trailer to just attendees.

Its like they are actively sabotaging their own marketing ploy.

Really a WTF category in the history of movie promotion!

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was expecting a quality stream via the official site, something along the lines of what Star Wars did from Celebration last year, with JJ and Kathleen Kennedy, culminating in the premiere of the trailer. This whole event tonight feels rather slapdash.
Well, this was just a one time thing to promote Beyond and premiere the trailer, so I wasn't expecting something like Celebration.
I've been hoping for a big televised event to celebrate the entire 50th Anniversary, but that's looking pretty unlikely at this point. Sadly this anniversary doesn't really seem to be getting the kind mainstream buzz Dr. Who's did.
EDIT: Wow, I loved that trailer. I think that was one of my favorite Trek movie trailers ever.

So I guess Yorktown isn't a ground side Starbase after all? Gotta say, I LOVE that design. It's kind of got that retro, Jetsons-ish look about it.
