Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

"I do wish Kirk didn't have to throw his own poop at Krall to defeat him, that was quite childish and gross."

"Um, throwing poop has been in our nature going back millenniums ago. Just look at monkeys!"

But, it was a social comment on biological warfare, too. After all, Kirk knew Krall's system couldn't handle the bad beasties in the bile. (Just getting in ahead of the crowd.)

Hey, it's the 20th of May somewhere, let's have that trailer!

It's the 20th of May here in Oz!

Anyway, link to a very long interview / article on Justin Lin.

Potential spoilers.

Aye, it was posted earlier I think. That picture of Spock is really nice, but then again I'm a sucker for the new uniform design over the old one so YMMV. I do hope we get a better look at the Yorktown uniforms here in the near future, and not just the leaked images from Dubai and so on.

*sigh*

I'm fine with people being fans of these films, but some in this thread act like the JJ films are absolutely flawless and above criticism of any sort.

There's always an answer for everything it seems.

People just get tired of pointless, repetitive bitching.

Good to know that you're fine with people liking what they like, though. I'll rest easier.

I lke the Beyond uniforms - less TOS and more becooming their own thing, maybe with a dash of a TNG vibe?

Mind you for the record I hugely enjoyed the 09/Into Darkness ones as redoing them from TOS, I thought they were spot on

No one has said the films are flawless. The bone of contention is usually when someone tries to argue that the flaws of these films are of some kind of unprecedented and unforgivable nature that's never been seen in Trek before, which just isn't true.

If people thought the films were flawless, they wouldn't have to provide answers for things, would they?

It's easier to believe they would listen to the proven centuries-old classical, just as we do now, than the centuries-old music of such ephemeral nature as today's consumer music that quickly comes and goes for the next big hype and shiny. It seems too egocentric to assume our music will last as well as classical into the 23rd century. If our own fickle music tastes change, it will date the movie.

I guess that's a bridge we'll cross when we get to it. Or not, as I'll likely be dead by that time and not care.

*sigh*

It is a discussion board. People are going to post their views on both sides. If you can't handle that, then you're in for a rough ride. Or just put everyone on ignore, that way you'll never know if there's an answer for the things you complain about.

Actually, more like:

Poster 1: "I can't believe Scotty got drunk! He's never been drunk! If this were Prime Trek, they would have had synthehol and would have shaken off the effects of it and saved the day!"
Poster 2: "Actually, in By Any Other Name, Scotty became quite inebriated, because he drank alcohol. This was confirmed later in TNG where Scotty noted with disbelief "synthetic scotch, synthetic commanders."

Would you have a problem with that? May those of us who don't like incorrect assertions made with faulty reasoning be allowed to correct those assertions without incurring your wrath?

Who is? I'm curious where this flawless film is so I may watch it.

The older I get, the more I realize there is no, and I mean no, film that is perfect. Star Wars has problems, LOTR isn't perfect, and on and on. My favorite films are riffed with flaws.

My larger issue comes down to the argument that Abrams Trek isn't just a flawed film but that it isn't Star Trek. As much grief as things like VOY, ENT, Star Trek V and Nemesis get, they are never accused of being "not Star Trek." The fact that Abrams Trek deals with that is very frustrating.

I've reached the point where if I find it fun and engaging, that's good enough. Not every piece of celluloid has to be a cinematic masterpiece. Sometimes I just want fun. If Star Trek can't be fun, even if it has a deep and thoughtful message (most Star Trek doesn't), then I don't want any part of it. I can go anywhere else and get SRS BSNS movies, but Star Trek began as a swashbuckling adventure. It has returned to those roots, and I couldn't be happier in that regard.

I like the old ones, but the new ones are just more my style I guess. I also quite like the Franklin design as well. Seems like we're pretty close to getting the era between ENT and NuTrek filled in.

when is there going to be another trailer? I think it's about time we had one. Hopefully one better than the first one (gosh I don't like that music they played)

No one is.

It's not happening in this thread, nor has the notion of the JJ films being "absolutely flawless and above criticism of any sort" been much in evidence in any other thread, save when someone—as Shalashaska has here—engages in a transparent game of "throwing poop to see what kind of reaction it will get".

Don't be the guy throwing poop. It's a poopy sort of thing to do.

A little more about the fan event from an attendee to be:

I received an email with more details about the Paramount Fan Event tomorrow. The most interesting thing was letting me know we can bring cell phones / cameras and take pictures EXCEPT if we want to participate in one evening activity we have to surrender our phones / cameras. I know what I hope that one event is! Crossing my fingers.
