Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Gotta love how blunt Pegg can be

His cowriter, Simon Pegg, is less diplomatic. Pegg says he was “disappointed that Wil Wheaton, Patton Oswalt, and George Takei were slagging off the trailer, because they know a finished trailer is never a reflection of the finished film. Get a fucking clue! It’s really good fun: thrilling and heartfelt.”

Well... he isn't wrong. That is, everything up until the last sentence. I'll have to reserve my judgement on that for July 22.

Which trailer was referenced remains ambiguous.
A search of Linkedin suggests to me he was watching the teaser trailer. Unfortunately if you are not from my generation, the music tends to color people's opinions of the trailer.

As if younger generations love the Beastie Boys with their Star Trek.

On the one hand, there is the argument that Trek should feature grand, solemn, highfalutin orchestral musical arrangements and not this newfangled rap-rock stuff from some musical whippersnappers.

On the other hand, there is the argument that "Sabotage" is a twenty-two year-old song from a thirty-six year-old band and is therefore archaic, and that Trek should feature something more contemporary and fresh instead.

You just can't please anybody these days.

It's easier to believe they would listen to the proven centuries-old classical, just as we do now, than the centuries-old music of such ephemeral nature as today's consumer music that quickly comes and goes for the next big hype and shiny. It seems too egocentric to assume our music will last as well as classical into the 23rd century. If our own fickle music tastes change, it will date the movie.

I've seen whole threads and conversations on social media which basically amount to: Rock music or Beastie boys in Trek suck, so the trailer sucks...and therefore the movie must suck.:bolian:

Then re-edited versions came out. STFC music. STTMP music....oohhhhh these are so much better. The trailer is much better this way!

1993 is "classic" in the same way 1969 was classic to people in 1993.

*sigh*

I'm fine with people being fans of these films, but some in this thread act like the JJ films are absolutely flawless and above criticism of any sort.

There's always an answer for everything it seems.
