Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

At this point, I've already made up my mind on this film. If it gets bad reviews on the level of something like Batman v Superman, I'll probably give it a skip until the film eventually leaks online in Blu-ray quality. I'm not exactly dying to go see it.

This is less of a "Paramount is screwing up the marketing!" or "Star Trek: The Fast & The Furious!" post as it is just general disinterest in the film on my part.

If it gets generally good reviews from critics and fans, then I'll go see it. But I'm not all too bothered either way. The new series from Bryan Fuller is something I'm much more hopeful and excited for, that's something I'll be watching day one regardless of what anyone says.

I'm not saying they must be good at it (whatever "it" happens to be). I'm saying they're probably better at "it" than I am, even if they're not all that great AND even if I don't like what they've done. More generally, the attitude of "anybody could do better" (without any apparent experience or training) permeates society and has knock-on, deleterious effects. However, I don't wish to venture too far into something more appropriate to another forum, so I'll end by noting that the right and ability to criticize do not automatically confer the ability to a better job than the subject of criticism--in any endeavour.

Again, I agree with you, but also add that the reasons for what you mention are more complex...in many fields, (mainly the arts I am talking here) there has been what could be perceived as a 'lowering of standards' in some fields. (step forward Damien Hirst, E L James....I am sure some would add J J and Michael bay. My individual jury is out on them) So it becomes a two way Street. Partially because arts are so subjective (some people think my above mentioned people are great, others opinions including my own differs) and partially because more and more it seems if you level the playing field, there are people who can indeed do a 'better' job, but weren't in the right place at the right time (or part of the right crowd or schmooze the right people) to get the recognition (and the pay packet) They would otherwise apparently earn.
The internet goes some way to democratising that...YouTube and a decent camera phone can be enough to show decent filmmaking skills or scripting skills, certain art websites have more skill and talent floating in their seas to make the big art names weep in shame (yeah..no...they wouldn't, but you know what I mean) and there's probably a thousand self published or indie press ebooks out there that are a thousand times better than 50 shades of really really bad writing.
But these people aren't professionals, because they aren't paid to do it, or not enough to support themselves.

So now, more than ever, not only is everyone a critic, but for once they can back that up with why they are qualified to criticise.

It's a strange century.

I never go to the cinema these days, so I will be waiting for home format, possibly cheap...in terms of leaks well...I won't claim purity on that front, but I can hand on heart say every 'leak' i have ever seen I bought within a year (apart from E.T, return of the Jedi, ghostbusters and Stiv...and encounter at farpoint...but since I was under ten, I don't don't think I was responsible for those. And I bought them later. Except ET) but I would suggest that perceived bad quality is not an excuse for piracy. I mean if it's so bad it's not worth paying for, then it's probably so bad we shouldn't watch it at all?

Me...I seriously disliked Into Darkness, I don't like the reboots....but I have a good feeling about this one. These are guys that play with the toys and put them in the box for the next person to play with... J J and crew were more of the kind that smash the wheels off and leave them buried in the sandpit for the next person to try to play with.
But we will see.

I skipped a few pages, so I missed where the story about the release being delayed came from. I checked IGN, the official Star Trek site, Tor.com, Io9, Trek Core, and Trek Movie, and none of them have anything about it.

You are in essence saying that only those who make movies for a living may criticize them.

You've missed the entire conversation. We're not discussing film criticism, but amateur analysis of marketing (and by inference budgeting and other mechanics of film production and distribution).

They're always ill-informed, useless and wrong. :)

I understood. Marketing is part of the movie process and, obviously, a target of criticism (or retroactive "analysis").

Indeed, it is a rumor. Gustavo Leão said it in Trek Brasilis website. He said he has good sources since when he was editor of TrekWeb. But I don´t know he is right or if his source is good.
I asked to Roberto Orci on twitter (I thought he would ignore my question), but he said: "it wont be delayed".

It's not on ScreenRant.com or ComingSoon.net. They copy/paste everyone else's real work. So if they don't copy it, it didn't happen.

What has a picture of Cumberbatch got to do with the word "nope"?

Never understood that meme. And why it's always posted here.

Did I do it right?

'it won't be delayed' can just as easily mean 'its planned to release then, the films ready, we just moved the date' and it therefore wouldn't be delayed.

I can't wait to see more the USS Franklin!

And am hoping for some kind of Franklin / Enterprise-refit mash-up! :P

But am also looking forward to seeing (hopefully) more new starships in general!

I look at reviews to see what one of the phases of movie reaction is, but I never use them to decide whether I see a movie or not.

It's funny, your post is the exact reason I posted the trekmovie pool a month ago about what fan anticipation was. Everywhere you look the sentiment is that everyone is waiting for the TV show, and the movie is an afterthought, but the reality is that 2/3rds of the fans are anticipating the movie more.
