Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I just saw in my programming guide that Chris Pine is scheduled to appear on the the Late Show with Steven Colbert tomorrow night (Wednesday 1/27) He might bring a clip!

You were right.

Colbert does try to divert the topic towards Captain Kirk but Pine resists taking the bait.

An abridged video of the interview is online but it is all strictly business at hand, promoting The Finest Hours.

You can watch the full show on the Late Night website. I so didn't get the porcupine joke. But it is Friday and the end of a long week. Maybe tomorrow it will make sense.

a humorous look at the trailer from Kevin Smith (around 22:15 mark)

I was watching the trailer last night and my eight-year old came up behind me and said, "I'm going to see that with you".

I've been thinking about the fate of the Enterprise, or more specifically how the matter will be resolved by the end of the movie.

TOUGH LITTLE SHIP: The ship looks pretty badly damaged in the trailer, but OTOH this seems to be a much tougher ship than in the Prime universe, having been build on Earth and surviving a pounding from the Vengance. So possibly repairs will be easier than we think?

THE SWARM. At the moment we're not sure of the nature of the Swarm. I've been thinking they might be mechanical drones with a hive mind. If they are drones, possibly they could be programmed to carry out reconstruction of the Enterprise.

A LITTLE SOMETHING I MADE EARLIER: At the beginning of the movie, Enterprise checks in with Starfleet outpost Yorktown. The ship is likely somewhat battered after two years exploring remote space, so they would have repair facilities there. Possibly they even build starships on site? If so, there might be an Enterprise Mark II waiting in the wings. If not, they might still have large parts of other starships they can cannibalise for parts.

The Enterprise is trashed, ripped section from section in an orbit that sees most of it burning up or slamming into pieces. There's no coming back from this one.

People need to stop being so attached so lumps of metal if they happen to have a name spray painted on.

The Enterprise never crashed into San Francisco.

It lost a nacelle, but did not burn up and seemed basically intact on impact - at least from what's visible in the trailer.

The saucer is cleaved off the stardrive by destroying the neck, a nacelle is torn off at full power heading for an atmospheric re-entry which will likely ignite the plasma inside. The stardrive hitting at atmosphere? breached in seconds or torn up, the fact it's largely hollow for the shuttlebay etc probably means it'll crack like an egg.

The saucer in the trailer comes down in a mountain range that flays half the plates off and tears holes all the way through it everywhere.

Best start with a totally new ship. And since the Enterprise is the only one of her class, quite the failure that the TOS connie was too, they'll make a new design altogether.
