Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I've been using it for years and not one major problem yet.

I have had difficulties with both firefox and chrome with various programs. Photo editing and the like.

It came down to my ad blocker causing issues.

On photo sites I could view but not edit etc.

The same went for using various functions and add-ons.

Didn't seem to have a rhyme or reason.

Firefox I could edit photos. Chrome I could not based on ad blocker

Go figure

Can the Mods split this thread so that it once again focuses on the new movie? Either that, or rename it "STAR TREK BROWSER"?

OK, so I read that "STAR TREK BOWZER" the first time.

Now, I can't get Sha Na Na out of my mind. Dammit!

Here's to more STB leaks coming this week (dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, dip, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, mum, get a job!).

Seeing Sofia Boutella's makeup makes me wonder if we're headed back to Nibiru?

I wondered that too, but they looked a lot less human than she does.

I noticed that too, but the Nibiru's faces were kinda lumpy, suggesting perhaps they were caked in mud or clay, as is a known tribal practice on Earth. (In which case I am guessing their skin was red to match the local foliage.)

A word to the wise:

I don't mind a little bit of topic drift while everyone's waiting for new movie details to hit the news, but ad blocking is a topic you'll want to take a certain amount of care in discussing at TrekBBS, and this is why.

so somebody on tumblr was mentioned that Zach Quinto said that he doesn't have all that much screen time with Chris Pine's Kirk and spends most of his time with Bones.

We didn't see Spock or Bones in the leaked photos, so that might fit.
I really like the Spock-Bones dynamic, so this is good news to me.

That's fine by me, we've had Kirk and Spock establish their undying love in two movies now, Spock and McCoy bickering for two hours sounds like fun :)

Good to hear. While it's good that Uhura has been bumped up to a more central role in the ensemble, it's disappointing that it's come at the expense of McCoy. Although so far we're seeing Kirk, Scotty, and Chekov together with the alien woman, and now we're hearing about Spock and McCoy spending a lot of time together... hopefully that means that Uhura and Sulu will have a strong subplot of their own rather than being marginalized. (Although I'm assuming that the two tidbits we have represent the overall division of the cast, which is a pretty big assumption.)

Goes back to my theory of the Omaze videos perhaps being a bit of a spoiler in themselves. So far we've seen:

- Pine/Elba
- Quinto/Urban
- Pegg/Yelchin
- Saldana/Cho

We now know that Spock and McCoy will be spending a significant amount of time together. We've seen footage of Chekov and Scotty. Kirk was also there but there's no reason that he may get in with Elba's character at some point. That leaves Sulu and Uhura. I like it though.

I really hope this is more of an ensemble film, that it gives everyone enough to do. Cho and Yelchin are such fantastic actors, but they've been kind of wasted in ST so far, especially Cho. But that's kind of unavoidable in Trek movies, given the limited screen time to apportion among the characters. (Hey, how about a Captain Sulu spinoff?)

^ Re: the ensemble vibe -- I agree! Although, haven't we been around this with a Captain Sulu spinoff before? It sounds SO familiar. :p (Having said that, I did like the nod to Captain Sulu in Into Darkness.) I'd love to see some promotions for the crew in Beyond though. Granted, outside of Kirk and Spock, have we ever really gotten ranks for these people?

Let's be honest -- I've never been convinced that Takei could carry a series himself. Cho, on the other hand, is a born leading man, and would've probably become one already (in something more than a terrible sitcom) if not for Hollywood's lingering racial bias.

Also, everyone these days seems to want to build extended cinematic universes to compete with Marvel, and it seems to me that Star Trek would be a perfect property to do that with, since it's already been a successful multi-series franchise on television. Spinning off a Cho Excelsior series from Star Trek might be a way to get that going. (Although perhaps the divided ownership/rights/responsibilities between CBS, Paramount, and Bad Robot could be the reason why Paramount hasn't already tried to develop a larger ST franchise, instead pinning their hopes on Transformers, of all things, as the basis for their cinematic universe.)

Dialogue in the 2009 film explicitly identifies Sulu and Uhura as lieutenants and Chekov as an ensign. Nothing for McCoy or Scotty in either film, dialogue-wise. But don't they have rank stripes on their sleeves?

I agree wholeheartedly on everything said.

I'm just not convinced that a shared cinematic universe is the way to go for every single property. I like one cinematic Trek adventure every couple of years myself.

I'm at work so I'll take your word on the dialogue. I did, however, just look up the entries on the uniforms and the rank pins. Scotty and Bones both wear Lieutenant Commander's stripes.

Given that in STID they established that Chekov had been hanging out in engineering with Scotty a lot, and Sulu and Uhura were working together in the shuttle on Nibiru, the pairs make even more sense.

My first thought with Spock and McCoy together a lot is Spock is commanding the Enterprise, not Kirk (off ship, in danger?), and maybe their back-and-forth will have mostly to do with the common goal of saving their friend from Elba's character or whatever conflict Elba's character started.

I don´t think it is good. I think it is GREAT!.
We’re finally going to have some fun.

I would like to see Spock in command with Bones needling him about his command decisions constantly.:techman:

Well, just enough to make the fans smile inwardly and outwardly.

Not so much that the casual movie-goer starts to think, why doesn't Spock just punch this guy.

On the whole, the news just keeps getting better and better.

The A story, Kirk, Scott and Chekov on an away mission.

The B story, Spock and Bones on the ship. Spock has to make command decisions.

The C story? What are Sulu and Uhuru doing?
