Star Trek Beyond pays homage to TOS

When seeing a woman in underwear, fear has never been what has made this Trekkie tremble. :nyah:

I have seen women in far worse than underwear but I don't mind it if it works well in the film or fits the storyline.
princess leia slave out fit in return of the jedi, when you look at it in context made more sense than carol in STID. Leia was held captive as a slave girl by a perverted monster: jabba the hutt so he dressed her up the way he liked because he held her as property which made sense in the film.

carol's underwear made no sense at all within the context of the film, it was not even a metaphor for anything. it was just out of place

THIS!

I honestly had no problem with Uhura changing clothes in her room in STO9 because that's a normal thing that happens. People change clothes in their rooms. Kirk hiding under the bed was to me more or less comic relief.

If Carol Marcus had been doing something that caused her clothes to be splattered with some horrible substance and she had to change clothes right away...whatever. The point is not the underwear...it's 'why is it there?' The scene contributed nothing to the story.

As a scene it was disposable and not essential, but there are many scenes like that in various Star Trek iterations. I see it as an issue, but not a really big one, if that makes sense.

Hooray! This is the latest way Abrams pays homage to TOS ;)

ITA, if it was a love scene between Kirk/Marcus no problem. ST09 had Gaila and Uhura in their underwear that scene worked and made sense. Gaila was boning Kirk and Uhura was in her own room getting undressed. It is said the director regretted that K/M scene or this an urban legend?

Seemed to be as "matter of fact" as the Uhura, Kirk and Galia scene in 09. Carol is changing clothes while talking with Kirk.

People change clothes all the time; it's normal. What does an enormous space slug find attractive about a bony little human? That makes no sense.

Paying homage to the character doesn't have to be about death, but the filmmakers could have Quinto Spock praying while wearing a black gown like Nimoy. Or they could simply have a picture of both of them in costume and make up saluting the jewish/vulcanian hand jesture in Spock's quarters of the Enterprise.

There's something about it in the Star Trek Compendium in the behind the scenes. I vaguely remember someone making a comment about how it served no purpose, but I can't remember who said it. I'd have to watch it again.
