^And we know JJ is a Galaxy Quest fan, or at least he's referenced it in interviews about the film. Think how much the secondary hull of the new Enterprise looks like the body of the NSEA Protector.
With not much more than a glance and no prior study (talking off the top of my head, iow) I'd say it's generally similar but not all that close. I'd go so far as to say that the Protector hull more closely resembles the body of the nebulizer in the link you posted earlier than it does the secondary hull of the new Enterprise.

All from a quick impression, of course, and not with an especially practiced eye. :p

Yeah, it's definitely just a suped up TOS phaser imo, I don't see the similarity to the ENT phaser.
I think Gep was onto something here, though.

^I'd say it looks a lot more like the nebulizers form Galaxy Quest.
i think your right.

The GQ guns are pretty much just suped up TOS phasers too, so it makes sense.

Well, fuck that.
The second quote today that I would seriously cinsider for my sig line but Joe Zhang's "never put a rubber hose up your ass unless you're paying a Dutch hooker" has you beat.

As for pics of the action figures, I have pics of what claim to be real but I don't know (I hope not because they look like shit).

They are on the addicted to Star Trek app on MySoace and I don't know if you have to sign up for the app to see the pics.

I remember as late as just a few short years ago you could still find the 1990s Playmates Koloth TOS figure at a local pharmacy chain just before it shut down. They marked it down to just a couple of bucks and it still didn't sell. It was the only TOS figure on those pegs...the rest were TNG characters like Data and Pulaski.

Those are customs made from 5 inch figures from the 90s. The new ones will be 4 and 6 inch. If the new ST figures look anything like the Terminator Salvation figures, the sculpting hasn't improved, but the articulation has changed (not better, just changed.).

It helps to see the Protector in color; it has the same very white, very smooth, very pearly, very organic surfacing as the new ship.
Didn't Alex Jaeger (the guy who designed the Akira Class) design the Protector?

Also dug this quote up:

I loved Galaxy Quest. I thought it was brilliant satire, not only of Trek, but of fandom in general. The only thing I wish they had done was cast me in it, and have me play a freaky fanboy who keeps screaming at the actor who played "the kid" about how awful it was that there was a kid on the spaceship. Alas. — Wil Wheaton

And I found out that the NTE in the registry number stands for Not The Enterprise.

I love the Internets.

:)

Okay, I said we'd try to steer clear of the whole Barbie thing with my daughter...

But this is different!
