Star Trek - Avenger (Fan Art for a Fan Fic)

LOL, yeah the 72 additional torpedo tubes that turned the Enterprise into the equivalent of a Typhoon-class Ballistic Missile Submarine in space. I'm completely disregarding those launchers as that is about as un-Starfleet as you can get. Those launchers make absolutely 0 sense.

Considering they also use the torpedo tubes to launch probes, it does make sense. You just fire off a bunch of probes in a system and then have the ship check out the most interesting stuff. Saves considerable time on surveys.

Sure, but 72 of them? That's overkill on any ship IMHO.

I'm just going to stick with the 8 tubes on my version and call it a day. :)
Can't call it "fanwank" if I'm technically 'reducing' the number of tubes on the ship anyway. ;)

So here's one of the Avenger's shuttles. The model is "borrowed" from the 2013 Star Trek game with texture edits and model tweaks/changes done by myself. Will probably build a new one from scratch but this one will do for the moment. :)

Came up with ideas for the ship's pennants and markings. Not sure which one I like better between the two types though. :/

The top ones are designed to look more TOS and the ones below are more TMP/Movies. Opinions and ideas are definitely welcome. :)

Loving the thoughts behind your design work (especially being a huge fan of both Trek and the Avengers movies)

With the name and registry livery I would stick with something close to how they are on the JJ Enterprise but with the pennants definitely go with the TOS styled ones. Always loved the TOS styling and thought it was missing off of the nuTrek ships, the TMP styled ones look a little too "Avengers" to me.

Thanks you guys. :)

I'm definitely leaning toward the TOS style pennants as well in addition to keeping the JJ Enterprise-style letters and numbers on the hull.

I should have a couple more character images up later today, those being Commodore Nicholas J. Fury and his attaché, Lieutenant Commander Maria Hill. Should also have a version of Captain Rogers in an Away Mission Jacket with the mission patch on the shoulder and then we should start seeing character images of the Guardians and the aliens I'm using as the crew's allies and antagonists. Lots to look forward to still. :D

The fic itself is currently sitting at 7 chapters and I'll likely start posting it to AO3 a chapter at a time once I get to the 10 chapter mark.

Toying with the idea of whether or not the Away Mission uniform should have the department color stripe down the leg or not. Not really sure which way to go with it tbh. Ideas?

Cap in his Away Mission Jacket and of course the lady that knows everything, Maria Hill. :)

Also, here is the Crew Observation Lounge of the Constitution-class upgrade USS Avenger. It's located on the aft end of Deck 1 and is easily seen on the hull as 10 large windows behind the bridge.

And here's the most recent WIP of the ship as a whole.

Looks good! I like those dark accents on the ship.

I can't draw people to save my life, but there's something weird going on with Hill's left eye.

Doh! Her left eye was too far from her nose lol. I went ahead and fixed that and updated the image above. I've also changed out the Avengers "A" from the arrowhead and changed the ship name at in the banner to that of the starbase to indicate that she's not part of the USS Avenger's crew.

So we now have Commodore Nicholas Fury, Commander of Starbase Albany and Talos Sector Starfleet Operations. He's going to be the one responsible for sending Captain Rogers off to do things he's not really comfortable with (because that's just what he does right? lol) but not to worry. Our brave Captain will have his 'side-kick' there to help along with the Guardians too because I couldn't not make Peter Quill the starship captain pariah of Starfleet. :P

So here's another ship interior for another vessel in my fic, this time belonging to the Guardians of the Galaxy. The bridge design is completely new and combines elements of both GotG's original Milano along with all the nuTrek elements you see throughout.

The area at the aft of the bridge is a briefing/lounge area which is meant to replicate the central seating/meeting area seen on the Milano in GotG but moved up to the bridge because I'm not going to be re-designing the entire interior of a Delta-class Scout just for this story. :P

Enjoy. :)

For those wondering, this is a Delta-class Scout on the outside (taken from Enterprise):
warp-delta-angled.jpg

And here's the ship's overall description taken from my DA:

The story of the Milano:
Commodore Nick Fury wanted a ship that he could send places and no matter where it went it would fly under the radar and blend in with the riff-raff as unnoticeable. The solution he came up with was to requisition an old Delta-class Scout from Starfleet's mothball yards as a starting point. The original USS Milano was stripped of her outer hull plating and then the internal parts reduced to scrap. An entirely new vessel, matching the original Delta-class frame, was constructed utilizing the latest technology (putting this ship on par tech-wise with the Enterprise and Avenger) and then had the original Delta-class hull plating reinstalled as the outer hull. The result was a ship that looks like an old Warp 3.5 Delta-class Scout on the outside but is actually a state-of-the art Starfleet ship on the inside.

As the Milano still classes as a scout ship and is only 4 decks in size, her armament is modest but potent. Two forward hull panels retract to reveal dual phaser emitters (same type as on the Constitution-class) along with another dual emitter aft and single fore/aft photon torpedo launchers. Though her weapons loadout doesn't seem like much, she is easily capable of matching a Klingon or Romulan Bird-of-Prey for speed, maneuverability, and firepower.

To cap off her facade of unimportance, Fury pulled Captain Peter Quill, notorious throughout Starfleet for having "failed to the top," and his motley band of misfit officers to be the crew of the ship. The final result is a ship (and crew...) that looks like yesterday's leftovers on the outside but is highly-capable and state-of-the-art on the inside.

USS MILANO
NCC-096
Delta-class Scout and Survey Vessel
Decks: 4
Crew: 5 (3 minimum, 25 maximum)
Maximum Warp: 3.56 (officially; Warp 8.67 unofficially)
Phasers: 2 Dual Emitters Fore, 1 Dual Emitter Aft
Torpedoes: Single Launchers, Fore and Aft
Notable Features: Atmosphere and planetary landing capable. Has polarization-shifted warp coils that give off a Konormian signature and not that of a Starfleet ship.

And here's Captain Rogers' quarters aboard the Constitution-class USS Avenger.

FYI, the Captain America sheets were totally Tony Stark's idea and Cap hated them, but as soon as Bucky saw them he insisted that they had to stay. :P

Comments and critiques on the interiors always welcome. :)

And here's another interior, this time the standard crew quarters on the ship. Individual bedrooms and bathrooms/refreshers with a common living space. The logo on the bedspreads here is the one that was kindly made for me earlier in the thread. :)

A couple more characters this time around. The first character is a Gorn by the name of S'tass Varkar and he's a representative of the Gorn Alliance. In my story the Gorn Alliance is at odds with the Gorn Hegemony over differences in their goals for the Gorn. The Hegemony wants to expand and conquer while the Alliance wants to work cooperatively with the other powers around them. Interesting conflict of interest, S'tass is the youngest son of the Gorn Hegemony's Imperator, Gris Varkar. Reptilian species can have daddy issues too. :P

S'tass will show up mid-way through the story and help our heroes in attempting to thwart his father's plan to invade the Talos Sector.

For the design of the Gorn, I decided to go with a look much more like anthropomorphic tyrannosaurs.I also gave them their tails back (because what kind of reptile doesn't have a tail of some sort, right?). The overall body type is pretty similar to the Gorn from Star Trek Online but decidedly a bit more muscular (Star Trek has always been lacking in the fitness department anyway, so here's my chance to fix that little oversight lol).

As always, opinions and feedback appreciated. :)

I think you mentioned a fanfic this was all for; is there a link up for it yet? :)

I think you mentioned a fanfic this was all for; is there a link up for it yet? :)

Not yet, haven't started posting it. I'm currently writing it and I'm on Chapter 10 right now with a word count of about 26k. Once Chapter 10 is finished then I'll start posting the fic up on AO3 (archiveofourown.org) a chapter a week.

I will, however, say that I just finished writing Chapter 9, in which our resident quarter-Vulcan and our favorite (in Marvel at least, lol) Captain share a mind meld and let me tell you was that a PAINFUL experience. Namely just for me as an author because the two of them relive a couple of the worst moments of their lives together and yeah, it was just bad and angsty and there was WAAAAAYYY too many feels in there and I cried while writing it and... anyway. Lets just say that the two of them come out of that experience forever changed for the better.

Hope that answers your question. :)

And we've got more characters coming up here followed up by a timeline overview and the final design for the USS Avenger!

First up is Captain Peter Jason Quill or Star-lord (Star-dork to his friends, lol). He's the captain of the aforementioned USS Milano and is joined by his trusty crew of 'Guardians.' Despite being a commanding officer, Quill wears a red Starfleet uniform. His first reason for doing so is because he prefers red and it's his ship so "shut up and leave him alone; he can do what he wants" and the second is that he originally came through Starfleet as an operations officer (logistics) so it's his 'native' color anyway.

Quill's weapons of choice are a pair of K'normian Phaser Pistols as they can be used on almost any mission, be it within or without Federation space.

Next up we have Drax "The Destroyer"

I changed his character design to give him four arms because I didin't think that "alien tat guy with revenge issues" was cool enough so now he's the "four-armed alien tat guy with revenge issues." Not sure if that's cooler or not but it is what it is lol.

Drax's back-story in Star Trek is that he and his family were Titanian colonists on a non-aligned agri-world. Klingon raiders from the House of Torg attacked the colony while Drax was off-world working to deliver a grain shipment and returned to find the colony had been leveled, its citizens (his wife and daughter included) murdered, and all of their resources and food pillaged. Drax immediately swore a revenge-oath against all Klingons, despite the fact that a Federation-led investigation determined that the House of Torg acted alone and without sanction from the Klingon High Council.

Because of Drax's "Klingon issues," Quill often has to reign him in any time they interact with Klingons, reminding the four-armed alien that not all Klingons are from the House of Torg but if they do meet any from Torg, then he's more than welcome to dispatch them with extreme prejudice.

Lastly, how Drax managed to get accepted into Starfleet and make it through training is anyone's guess. It's more likely that he was ushered through training without much fanfare because people just didn't want to put up with him and wanted him gone.

Same as his Marvel counterpart, Drax's people speak denotatively (exact dictionary definitions only) and do not understand the concepts of sarcasm, metaphor, or similes.

Next up is the timeline of events in my story. All of these events are in-universe to Star Trek and incorporate notable Kelvin Timeline events for reference. Stardates are in the Year/Julian Day format from the Kelvin Universe. This system is actually MUCH easier to understand than the old system from the Prime Timeline. Thank God for small favors. :)

So here she is, the Constitution-class (Upgrade) USS Avenger as built at Starbase Albany in the Talos Sector.

Construction on the USS Avenger began at Starbase Albany on stardate 2256.280 as the eighth Naval Construction Contract vessel of the Constitution-class. Commodore Fury put together a team of engineers and tasked them with modifying the original Constitution-class (NX-1700 Specifications) designs to allow the vessel to tackle more tactically-related missions while maintaining basic survey and exploration capability. The overly flashy interior of the Constitution was toned down and downsized to allow additional internal volume to be allotted to primary and secondary systems, to include weapons, shields, and crew amenities.

The final approved design for the Avenger saw a marked improvement in tactical and sensor capabilities in addition to an increase in shield sustainability, capacity, and charge rates. With Commander Anthony Stark overseeing the installation of the ship's prototype warp arc reactor and final systems, additional modifications were undertaken to ensure ship survivability and mission sustainment.
