Star Trek Armada

Aw, I loved Armada! I played it for months before I ever got bored with it. I'd love to try an updated version.

I was terribly disappointed with Armada 2, however.

As was I...and Now I am lucky. By five year old son starting to get into STAR TREK little by little. I have ARMADA on hot stand by when the day comes he wants to start playing. I can't wait!!! I WILL DESTROY HIM!!!!!

How can I get Star Trek Armada to play on Windows XP? I tried different compatibility modes but the game still doesn't work properly.

This thread inspired me to reinstall Armada 1 and use the Star Trek Vs. Star Wars mod on it. Tricobolt torpedoes > Tie Squadrons FTW!

How weird that this comes up now... a few months back I found my copy and re-played it and, dissatisfied with the mods I could find, began (with no expertise) creating a mod to basically replace the SODs and upgrade the ships to be more realistic and add various ships from the Klingon Academy mod and others, and for the Federation a hero shipyard capable of building all the hero ships. Alas, I got bored trying to finish it when I seemed unable to make the missions work properly. Perhaps this is the inspiration I need to finish it... or at least to take some screenshots.

^^ I've been looking for some good mods. I used to have them on my old computer before it crashed a long time ago. I'd love to see some screenshots of your mods. I'm curious how you build them, as I could probably build the ones I need. I never bought Armada 2, as I was disappointed with it after trying the demo. But I'd love to see ships like the Galaxy and Intrepid classes added as mods.

There was one German mod (Dark Alliances) which I thought was REALLY accurate. It replaced all four sides into alliances. The Starfleet side would have elements of the Klingons and Romulans added in, the Borg would have some Delta Quadrant races, the Cardassians would have the Ferengi to help, and the Dominion had the Breen. All explosions had various sizes of shockwaves (obviously the bigger the explosion, the bigger the wave) with the waves themselves causing damage, so clearly you had to think a LOT more tactically than simply pouring ships into an enemy base, lest you destroy an enemy structure and the resultant explosion wipe out your whole fleet. On top of that, torpedo impacts had sound effects, and the pulse phasers could charge up for a barrage of blasts that usually decimated even the strongest ships (adding quite a bit of authenticity when compared to the hero Defiant of DS9).

The big drawbacks, though, were:
-poor ship choices (why a Shelly class and not an Intrepid? Why an Excelsior with three nacelles rather than an Ambassador? What happened to the Steamrunner?)
-poor scaling (The Excelsior should never dwarf a Galaxy!)
-all this effort into the nitty gritty, and the weapons fire from the wrong spots?

Still, a fun mod all around, if only for the Defiant herself.

I liked that mod..but I really liked the Battlestations one...I would cheat, of course, and MOD DS9 to make it pratically unbeatble...and the Defiant? I would amp it up too..

Are these mods still available anywhere? I looked at one of the links on the first page of this thread and couldn't find what I was looking for.

Try here and here for starters. I haven't re-installed my mod on my comp yet but I hope to some time by the weekend and take a few screen shots. If you're willing to risk a buggy mod, I could probably share what I've done so far too. I was going to release it once I finished it, which I obviously didn't. I don't have a self-extractor so you would have to install manually.

There are a couple of basic tutorials on those sites for modding. It's not as hard as you might think... getting the AI to know they're there and to appear in story-mode... those are the kicker that kind of turned me off to it. It's also one of those things where you want to make sure you back up everything before you make any kind of change so you'll know where something went wrong if it does indeed go wrong. (And yes, it probably will.)

^^^^ Thanks for the links and the files. I will definitely have to try them out this weekend. I believe I had the All-In-One mod before, because I remember having DS9.

I agree that Armada 1 is alot better. However, I do modding for Armada II to make it better since it can be very fun with Mods. I am currently making my own mod that revamps the weapons and ship classes to be more realistic. I also allowed the weak Cardassians to become allies with the Dominion.

I agree that Armada was far better than its sequel.

However, I did enjoy playing as Species 8472 in multiplayer in Armada 2....

I like the "All-In-One" mod, which adds tons of ships and stuff (including a massive Deep Space 9!) You can find it here: http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/afc/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=261

Argh! I can't seem to install that mod! I tried extracting it straight into the Armada folder (as the Readme says), but Winzip won't let me. When I try to install the files manually, Winzip then crashes.

Lately, Ive been on a modding craze, getting as many conversions as I can and then installing them properly. They've always worked, but this is the first time that I haven't been able to install anything. I'm sad.

That's really weird. I'd say something's wrong with your zip file.

You could be right. In the meantime, I'm playing Galaxy Wars, and it's not as satisfying as some other mods. Which, of course, is all the more reason why I should try the All in One Mod ...

I know hoy you feel I have tried to install the Millennium mod several times and it hasn't worked yet, so I have this to say about that particular mod.
