See, you can do it if you try. ;)

I've been here for a decade giving tons of constructive feedback and tips to fan filmmakers. I've got about 8000x your score on that account here. :)

@Maurice: Haven't you told us a million times, NOT to exaggerate? :p

@Jim: I've re-checked this thread, it's not the kind of criticism that reaches troll level anywhere here.
To be fair: You haven't been the one to advertise your movie here, so it's not as if you've invited the gang for the dinner party... BUT: the word and the trailer's out. And discussions about the looks and feel and the content are open. Nothing you could have prevented.
Please try to relax and don't take criticism too hard. When a singer enters a Karaoke Bar he can't expect the audience to applaud his efforts, even if he's been pushed on stage... ;)

@Barb: The written word may sometimes hurt more than expected. Don't take everything personal. Don't try too hard to defend someone, you may chatch fire... ;)

@Karzak: You seem reasonable... to me. ;)

:wtf:

I do not hate you, Barb. But I do disagree with your narrative of the discourse here, and likewise your lack of ability to reconcile that there are some fan filmmakers who are just as guilty of perpetuating this nastiness as there are those in the bleachers watching.

For reasons mysterious to me, I get told a lot of possibly private stuff by fan filmmakers. They probably wouldn't tell this stuff to the person who assigned their copyright file number at the Library of Congress (yes, I'm seeking some kind of analogy, as I have assigned myself the job of indexer).

I don't feel free repeating it.

Some people who make fan films have other issues. You may not know what those are. However, Hidden Frontier has become an inspiration for many groups who would like a Star Trek about people like them. (I admit freely that my love for The Multiverse Crisis is in part that it's all in a New York accent... hey, me in Trek!) Anyway, I do give those people some space.

A group that is OBVIOUS and open about this is Star Trek: The Early Frontier. A planned film by deaf Trek fans, it is set in an alternate universe in which there is no sound. They fight about things no other Trek group fights about, like what type of sign language and subtitling to use.

I don't feel free to lay out what specific reason a group which is more subtle about being different is different, but I may know some things you don't.

Finally, my own indexing work depends on fan filmmakers making fan films, good or bad. I do have a collection of links I think will help them, including select links to some threads on this board, but I admit I don't want to discourage them. I also admit to do what I do, you have to more or less like MOST of them, including the ones others think are bad.

So I probably am a lot softer on filmmakers than you are, but I may have reasons you may not know about. Also, not every fan filmmaker is trying to make a great film, some just want to have fun and share their fun. That may not be OK to you, but it is OK to me.
