Seriously, no reason for concern about the drop... the movie's still performing better than most thought it would.
My feeling from talking around the neighborhood here is that Angels and Demons will skew old (like me, 50 plus).
There is also a potentially sizable number of people who are now curious enough to see Star Trek after the word of mouth.
Add to that the Wolverine crowd finally getting around to the movie, if only to blow raspberries at the screen, and weekend 2 might be pretty darned good.
Here's hoping!

Disappointing Tuesday numbers to say the least. I was expecting at most a 7-8% hit. Not good at all.

This is still a strong number. A little bit stronger than I had thought it would be. I wonder if WOM will be solid enough to help Trek beat Angels and Demons this weekend. Its highly doubtful, but even if Trek comes in a few million behind Tom Hanks with a drop less than 50% it will be huge news.

I don't see how $6.45M on a Tuesday is "not good." Looks to me like the movie is going to have a strong first week. I think it's positioned well for the weekend, as I don't see there being significant overlap with Angels & Demons' target audience. I'm anticipating a strong second weekend showing. The new Terminator movie is going to be the heavier competition.

Assuming these estimates hold up, ST has made $13.95 million combined on Monday and Tuesday. That means it's outpacing Wolverine's first Monday and Tuesday by 38.5% ($10.07 million).

Well, it's not going to compare well in the end to either of them.
Iron Man made over 300 million in the U.S.; Star Trek won't. Star Trek may well match or pass Batman Begins' domestic take, which was 205 million.
Iron Man and Batman Begins made, respectively, 263 million and 167 million internationally. If Star Trek breaks the 100 million dollar international barrier it will have done very well.
Star Trek will most likely top out under 350 million.

Good news kids!
The final Tuesday numbers have been released and they are higher than the estimate.
Not a huge difference, but it's better than the decrease from the estimate we saw yesterday.
The final number is $6,505,775, about $55K more.

If Star Trek isn't being fanboy-driven and next weekend's domestic gross is more than 50 percent of the first weekend, and then revenue continues to decline at rates similar to Batman Begins or Iron Man, then it's on its way to $200 million by week eight. That would mean it certainly shouldn't have trouble making its $230 million domestic estimate.

Fun Fact: The final number is only $9 less than Iron Man's first Tuesday. You guys should have bought one more ticket!!
