Star Trek - $4.53 million Monday (5/18) - $152 million (Final numbers)

I've run out of adjectives that mean I'm "agog." Have to dig out the thesaurus.

The article says fans are ticked off T4 is not rated "R." What is Trek rated? I didn't even notice.

PG-13

PG-13, which is about right for Trek. Terminator fits into the PG-13 realm as well in my opinion. I was never that impressed with the level of violence in it. The hardcore fans of the franchise disagree I guess ;)

So, same as T4.

This movie has officially gone from a great movie at the box office to an unprecidented sci-fi hit for Paramount. The fact that it will get a significant amount of ticket sales on Memorial Day weekend is insane. I'd bet that the executives at Paramount can't close their mouths and are shoving projects at JJ and his team.

Forget guaranteeing one sequel, this will at least guarantee 2.

Also an interesting prediction of Memorial Day Weekend: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/weekendwarriornews.php?id=55642

As far as the returning movies, J.J. Abrams' Star Trek should hold up well, even though it will likely be losing a lot of its IMAX screens to "Night at the Museum." Expect the demand to be great enough that it gets some of them back by mid-June. Otherwise, Memorial Day is a great weekend to catch up on April and early summer movies people may have missed and that's often what many of them do rather than trying to get into crowded theatres for the new blockbusters.
Predictions and Comparisons - (all four-day predictions)

1. Terminator Salvation (Warner Bros.) - $71.6 million N/A

2. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (20th Century Fox) - $67.4 million N/A

3. Star Trek (Paramount) - $32.0 -26%

4. Angels & Demons (Sony) - $28.0 -39%

Wouldn't that be nice... especially IMAX in June for Star Trek.

I also kind of figured sold-out venues would prompt people to (re)visit Star Trek again... Here's hoping...

Salvation, Angels/Demons, and Night at the Museum are getting mostly CRAP reviews at RottenTomatoes.

I'll still see Terminator but it'll probably be a matinee at best. Unlike Star Trek which got repeat business from me TWICE (including a full price IMAX ticket).

Now Paramount is trying to figure out how to get their four cash cows -- Iron Man, Transformers, Indiana Jones and Star Trek -- all in the same movie! :)

So we should expect Kirk to find an Iron Man suit in his quest to recover the crystal skull from the Decepticons? :D CROSSOVER!
