Star Trek 25th anniversary

Just a few words.

My GOD how come I haven't played this game sooner!? I just can't get enough of it! The combat, the puzzles, give me more more MORE!!! :scream:

I would really like there to be a modern update of this game, it's so awesome and underappreciated. I think a modern update would definitely take the ST Gaming franchise which has been floundering about for so long and make an actually good Star Trek game a little more recent than the mid-late 90's. An ST: 25th Anniversary update for PSP I would take home regardless of what the reviewers say.

Yeah, I look back on both of those games with great fondness. It has been a very long time since I played either one. I'm not even sure if they would run on my current system.

There is such a thing as DosBox.
It should allow you to play the game.
:-)
I was able to run some DOS games under such programs in Win 7 x64.

I downloaded and replayed the 25th Anniversary edition this summer. I don't think I completed the last mission in the past and I definitely didn't finish it again.

Yes, sequel. Games of this type:

Star Trek: 25th Anniversary Edition
Star Trek: Judgment Rights
Star Trek Next Generation: Final Unity

Star Trek 25th Anniversary was a stellar game. It is probably the earliest game that I can remember that I ever pre-ordered, actually, my dad did. I remember the release date kept getting pushed back, but when the game was finally delivered to my house I was one happy kid. Previous to this, the only Trek games I had played were Promethan Prophecy, and Kobayashi Alternative - but I was already immersed in the great adventure games of Lucasarts, and the various other adventure titles from Sierra.

I remember the initial install seemed to take forever, I can't remember how many 3.5" were in that box now, but I just know it seemed to take awhile to install. I thought all the missions in the game were very well done. Hijacked, Loves Labor Jeopardized, and Another Fine Mess are all really fun to play through.

And then when Judgement Rites was released, it was even better in a lot of ways than the original. I still love playing that first mission, and that Trelane mission where you are in a WWI town is great too. Recently played both of these again, thanks to DOSbox, and these games are still a lot of fun to play. I now have the CD versions, with the voices of the original cast, which makes them even better really.

It is a shame Secret of Vulcan Fury never got released, I was really looking forward to that game. I am still wondering how far along they got with that game.

Please don't bring up The Secret of Vulcan fury, I'm still not over its cancellation.

Why lord, why cancel this!!

WHYYYYY!!

Ditto.

Thankyou to the original poster for cheering me up with the enthusiasm for finding 25th Anniversary. The sequel, Judgement Rites is cool too. Wish they'd make more! I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to do a game like that these days with web based applications and do something like this (but a bit more seriously):

Yes, it's a truly wonderful game. I have it on Macintosh, and it still runs beautifully under Basilisk.

That last mission can be brutal. The two Elasi ships, and the Enterprise replica. It helps if you get that alien tech in that one mission to enhance your torpedoes. Also, waste the two Elasi ships first, then come to a full stop. The replica Enterprise basically goes in some kind of weird circle pattern, and there are times when it will line up with your crosshairs. Last time I beat it, after I wasted the Elasi, I don't think Breddell's Enteprise even got a hit in. Also have Scotty repair the shields ASAP. Of course, I think that's the only repair function I ever used in all the space battles.

25th was indeed a good game, though some elements could have been balanced a little better - the last mission is a PITA, while the one before it is kind of drab.

You can download the game as a bundle from oldgames.sk which does all the hard work for you. You can even purchase a download of the CD version with all the original cast voices.

25th and Judgment Rights were and are fantastic adventure games, some of the best ever made. I still regularly replay them on rainy weekends. I believe both are available as free downloads any many legit sites now, so if you haven't played them - play them. It's too bad Vulcan Fury never came out... I remember seeing the previews in the Judgment Rites (later release on CD) booklet, with the screen shots of the Kirk, Spock and McCoy and how detailed their faces were. All of the marketing for the game looked incredible, as well. I'm sure somewhere the source for the game exists, and chances are it's rather polished and pretty close to being finished. The 10 year IP rights for the game should be up pretty soon... assuming Interplay hasn't renewed it, can probably be purchased pretty cheaply from them and then you can just sue for rights to the development materials. It would probably cost a few bucks, but honestly I would pay $15 or $20 to play that game, even today... and I'm sure a couple thousand other people would as well... it'd be worth it.
