Star Trek 2009 rewatch: George Kirk.

I can not even believe that is Chris Hemsworth playing george kirk because Hemsworth as Thor has yet to act as good or show as much emotional range in the thor and avengers films like he did in the first 15 minutes of star trek 2009.

Because the character of Thor does not require much emotional range.

I just want to see an Easter egg where it is hinted that "George Kirk" was the mortal form of Thor. :p ;)

I agree, that opening prologue is one of the best parts of the new films. It reminded me of the opening sequence to Undiscovered Country, with the Praxis explosion and the Excelsior's (and Sulu's) response. Like a jolt right out of the gate. Good stuff.
I've been saying since I first saw it that TUC started with a bang.

It's taken me a long time to really warm to nu-Trek. I finally had to accept that first and foremost these are action films and we're not going to get the same character development we got with the series. That being said ...

I just re-watched ST09 and STID and George Kirk's death scene was indeed VERY powerful. ST09 has some very powerful character moments (that I wish existed in STID) and made me have a whole new appreciation for the film. I am now far more excited for STB.

Indeed. One of the best things about the new films are that they leap right out of the gate, and the race to the finish is already on.
