Professor Newton is dressed almost exactly as William Hartnell's Doctor (Who)! I noticed this in an episode of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" that riffed "Crash of Moons" from "Rocky Jones". That led me to wonder how DW might have developed if done in America in the 1940s or 50s, by, say, RKO in serialized format. I won't go into details as I don't want to derail this thread from its rightful author.

Both have that older academician look not uncommon in shows of those eras. It deliberately invokes the style of a previous century.

I would add that clips of the show would be used as stock footage in other films, and as something random to put on the TV screen when a movie character in that time period is watching TV, or random merch toys in a kid's bedroom or on some office desk. It might even wind up being part of an episode of a franchise like Star Trek, in which case said footage or prop would be the subject of discussion on a forum like this one, with viewers trying to figure out its provenance.
