The chances of this happening are zero, but the idea came to me, I liked it, and thought I would share.
It would be cool if another director developed a movie off the countdown comics for the TNG cast (and no, not a recast, but the actual cast).
It could include Bana as Nero, and really delve into his backstory (the way ST11 should have) and include most of what happens in the comics. I don't think that would need to fill a movie, but it would be interesting to move forward and see what happens post the destruction of Romulus and basically the Romulan empire.
I think there would need to be more substance and a different arc for the second half of the film, but that would be a good launching point into another TNG film. I think it could even be done with much less budget than ST11 and have more substance over style (which is why I suggest a different director than Abrams).
A must for the movie would be correct characterization of the TNG crew, and not hiding the fact they've aged. In other words, I don't want Riker in fist to fist combat, or Picard riding a dune buggy... I think a more political movie, and ship to ship combat would be fine.
I'm sure nothing like that would happen, but I would find it very cool and would be awesome if we had nuTrek movies coming out as well as TNG movies. I'm sure other TNG fans at least would enjoy that.
