Star Fleet Shuttlecraft: The Best?

I’ve always liked the original Galileo. Boxy and simple, but believable in the context of TOS Treknology. To quote Phil Broad’s cloudster.com website: “The design was simple and yet unfamiliar, as if based on technological trends which have yet to begin.”

And designed by Thomas Kellogg, one of the men responsible for the design of the Studebaker Avanti.

My only knock on the shuttles is that the nacelles double as landing struts. It seems odd to me that you'd want to continously apply that much force to such a vital piece of equipment.
Looks-wise, I have to go with the Runabout.

I liked the various shuttles in the 2009 reboot. They looked worn and real. They even had seatbelts!

I never liked the TNG/VOY shuttles - especially the ones witg the carpet up the walls. Yuk!

the nacelles double as landing struts

That only seems to apply to the shuttles of ST5, TNG and VOY, though. Others have landing pads or skids, even if these sometimes are located in the nacelles...

My favorite nowadays is the barely glimpsed Kelvin shuttle. If that could be tweaked just a little bit towards the austere, almost featureless TOS design, there'd be the right balance between an exotic and unlikely shape, an obviously practical and rugged construction, and exciting little detail in the form of just the right amount of blinkies and movables.

I was a big fan of the Runabout from the first time I saw them. Sleek, functional, and able to handle long missions comfortably made this very appealing to me.

The STXI shuttles are definitely in my top tier of shuttles for me. They look practical and have decent enough size that I can see them actually being useful, as opposed the TV show shuttles that never really able to do much.

Prime timeline shuttles: both Defiant shuttles and the Type 9/Class 2/Speedboat shuttle from Voyager are probably the best looking shuttles from that era of Trek. Everything else looked like a box, except the Type 7.

Why would I want to spend two weeks in a shuttle? I could take over the world in two days with one!

Nothing you can do in a shuttlepod that you can't do in a runabout. You also have toilet facilities and sleeping facilities, as well as plenty of space to seduce the women you bring aboard to impress. :p

My absolute favorite is the TNG Type-7 "soapbar" shuttle. I know it's not a favorite of others, but for me, it's my favorite, and I'm standing by it.

The "soapbar" is a clean and sleek design, but it just doesn't say "spacecraft" to me. It reminds me of a 1990s minivan.

Ahhh, but if the soap-shuttle appeared in '87 then the 90s mini-van should remind you of the shuttle (not the other way 'round).

I, too, love the Probert-designed shuttle. On its own merits, it's great. What makes it winning for me is that it fits so well with the Enterprise-D design, they share the same aesthetic. Plus, the Type 7 seems to me to be the only proper evolution of the TOS shuttle. If the classic TOS shuttle was to be updated by a century, the Type 7 is what I'd wanna see. The other TNG shuttles are fine, but lack the style and grace of the soap-shuttle, IMO.

The Galileo 7 from TOS and the Galileo 5 from TFF have always been my favorites. I can see the evolution of the design when I look at the two of them side by side.

The type 7 shuttle, designed by Andrew Probert, is my favorite from the TNG era and have always though it was too bad that TNG didn't have the budget to create a full scale model. The type 6 they did have looks like what it was, a chopped down version of the Galileo 5.

I liked the lines of the first TNG Probert shuttle, 24th century style, great smooth lines, a shame they couldn't build a full size mock-up

...plenty of space to seduce the women you bring aboard to impress.

Yet in a cramped shuttlepod, you can skip the seducing part - physical interaction is already assured!
