Star charts

Out of curiosity I went looking for a map of the Romulan Star Empire via a search engine. (don't nobody faint!) Yahoo & Google didn't have very many sites listed that actually had star charts of the Romulan Star Empire however they both listed this site: link removed

That's because those are from the book Star Trek: Star Charts and I believe it's illegal for them to be posted on the internet.

Images of the star charts themselves not the link, besides I have 3 questions about these charts.
Why is the Klingon Empire sorta shaped like the Russia?
Why is the Romulan Star Empire smaller than either the Federation or Klingon Empire? Could this be the result of using impulse capable ship earlier in the development of the Empire?

Well, remember that space is Three Dimensional and those maps are 2-D. The Romulans may look smaller in 2-D but in 3-D perhaps the green circle is a larger sphere in height than in length.

Geez, look at the size of the Federation compared to just about everyone else. Makes you wonder why all these powers would want to pick a fight with the Feds.

Like I said, the charts are 2-D not 3-D. Maybe in 3-D it's more even.

James Wright, at the moment I've removed the link since it's copyrighted and I believe can't be posted on the board. I'm double checking that. If it's allowed, I'll put it back.

I have the Star Charts, and I also have the ancient Star Trek Maps, both by Geoffrey Mandell. It's interesting to compare them and see how thinking on the subject has changed over the years. I think given the impossibly contradictory data from all the series, he did a great job putting the maps together.

Still, there were things I don't agree with, so I decided to make my own. They are styled after Star Charts, but are 100% drawn from scratch. They are a continual work-in-progress, and focus on the area where my fanfic takes place.

Very cool. I forgot about the Hur'Q. In looking at them, they sound like a take on FASA's Kinshaya that kicked the Klingons' asses in a similar manner.

I recall Chakotay's mentioning of the Chah-moo-zee but I don't recall there ever being multiple wormholes involved. Did that come from the charts as well or was that added on after the fact?

What books are there have the star charts and 'histories' of the planets and empires and the lost ships etc?

Personally, I always pictured the Hur'q as those Skeletor guys from Worf's holodeck excercise programs, but they've never actually appeared in any of my stories.

The idea of Chah-mooz-ee wormholes is from the Star Trek Encyclopedia. There is says: "Voyager senior illustrator Rick Sternbach designed the Chah-mooz-ee symbol. Rick says he based the design on a map of the Milky Way galaxy, and the V lines may—or may not—suggest the paths of various wormholes and other spatial phenomena across the galaxy."

That always tantalized me, plus my fanfic contains the idea of a massive but unknown wormhole network spanning the universe, so the Chah-mooz-ee seemed like a natural thing to add to my maps. The Bajoran and Barzan wormholes seemed to more-or-less correspond to the longer lines on the Chah-mooz-ee already, so all I did was add the three shorter ones to complete the connection.

Well, the most current book of star charts is
http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Charts

If you want more detailed info about planets, you can buy
http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/The_Worlds_of_the_Federation

There are several much older books out there with history and maps, but they are pretty much outdated.

AH! That makes sense now. Thank you and very cool take on an obscure bit of Trek history. :techman:
