Personally, I always pictured the Hur'q as those Skeletor guys from Worf's holodeck excercise programs, but they've never actually appeared in any of my stories.
The idea of Chah-mooz-ee wormholes is from the Star Trek Encyclopedia. There is says: "Voyager senior illustrator Rick Sternbach designed the Chah-mooz-ee symbol. Rick says he based the design on a map of the Milky Way galaxy, and the V lines may—or may not—suggest the paths of various wormholes and other spatial phenomena across the galaxy."
That always tantalized me, plus my fanfic contains the idea of a massive but unknown wormhole network spanning the universe, so the Chah-mooz-ee seemed like a natural thing to add to my maps. The Bajoran and Barzan wormholes seemed to more-or-less correspond to the longer lines on the Chah-mooz-ee already, so all I did was add the three shorter ones to complete the connection.
