Hello, I just joined Trek BBS. I am a long time forum reader here but this is my very first post. I was just curious if anyone could tell me if there were any TOS books that focused on the friendship between Spock and McCoy? I know there have been many,many books that told stories regarding Kirk and Spock and also several books that cover Kirk and McCoy. One in particular which to this day is one of my favorite TOS books, TOS # 63 Shell Game by I believe Melissa Crandall. But I cannot seem to recall any books offhand that focused on the Spock/McCoy friendship. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Howard Weinstein's The Covenant of the Crown has some terrific Spock/McCoy stuff. There are also some Spock/McCoy interactions I'm rather proud of in my own novel Ex Machina.
"Doctor's Orders", from memory, has some great McCoy/Spock interplay, with McCoy put in temporary command by Kirk, to teach him a lesson - and Spock not permitting McCoy to relinquish command when Kirk goes missing.
It's not in continuity with the rest of the Star Trek book line (in case you care about such things), but David R George III's excellent Crucible trilogy has some wonderful Spock/McCoy stuff. And I heartily second both of Christopher's recommendations above: the two books he cites are among my very favourite Star Trek books of all, partially because they do focus so well on the Spock/McCoy relationship.
Dreams of the Raven by Carmen Carter has some excellent scenes of the Spock&McCoy friendship. Shadows on the sun by Micheal Jan Friedman and the excellent TOS book that came out a few year ago Troublesome minds by Dave Galnter and A Choice of Castastrophiesis an excellent book about McCoy and the other crewmembers friendhips. Also Vulcan'r Forgehas some nice scenes of the Spock&McCoy friendship.
Thanks so much to everyone for all the suggestions. I have a good bit of those books but have not actually read them yet. My to read stack of Star Trek books has gotten absolutely ridiculous so I will try to dig those books out of storage and start reading some of them. The only ones I don't have are the Crucible trilogy but I plan on getting those books next. By the way, thank you Mr. Bennett for your reply. I had just finished reading your two Department of Temporal Investigation books, both quite excellent reads I must say, when I made my post and lo and behold you replied. When I checked the forum the next morning I saw your response and told my wife " Christopher Bennett just replied to my question. "
