ST-TNG and 1980s hair fashion

I was really criticizing all those kinds of high-price jeans, then and now.

Sorry if I got the signals crossed.

We made it all this way and no mention of this classic hairdo-gone-wrong moment?

Were the hair and makeup people just pissed off at her that day?

It's only in one scene in one episode (Haven) and never makes an appearance again. So random!

That was her "dinner party" 'do!

The line she was saying at that time was (paraphrase) "You mean the wedding party goes NAKED???"

(Apparently Deanna's prospective mother-in-law wasn't thrilled with that idea)

Also, there's a scene on the blooper reel of Tasha when we first see her with this goofy hairdo, choking on a glass of water and trying to soldier on through the scene...

One fashion trend on TNG was that even though the featured female characters mostly had long hair, many of the other female crew members were given rather drastically short haircuts

Patricia Tallman!

Gene Roddenberry's personal assistant Susan Sackett!

Ann Gillespie, who later played Doctor Bashir's Bajoran head nurse on DS9 but who is also probably better known as Jackie Taylor, Kelly Taylor's mom on the original Beverly Hills, 90210.

Dana Sparks, better known from her role on Falcon Crest as Robert Foxworth & Susan Sullivan's daughter.

Denise...Handicap? Wendy...Wheelchair?

during TOS' first year, the characters often wore pointed sideburns to give them a futuristic touch. I was wondering if anyone noticed a similar trend in TNG 'fashion'.

The pointed sideburns carried through Next Gen as well in places. Riker sported some before he grew the beard. But they were pretty much phased out during DS9/VOY. :)

Negative. Bashir, Chakotay, Tuvok, and Paris all had pointy sideburns.

Paris, in Season 7's "Drive" : http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/7x03/drive237.jpg

Tuvok in Season 7's "Repression" :

Chakotay in Season 7's "Human Error" : http://voy.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/7x03/drive237.jpg

Bashir in Season 7's "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" :

I can't recall if anyone on Enterprise did it.

Me too. Particularly on McFadden. Season one was Crusher's best look s far as I'm concerned.

Hell, women in general looked better back then.
Make up was a bit heavy for my tastes, even back then.

True, but women looked less "hookerish" then than they do today.
I guess that would depend on what defines "Hookerish". This was after all the era that gave us Madonna running around in her underwear and produced Pretty Woman ( sure, released in 1990 but...)

I always thought it odd that Beverly just got better looking as the series went on. Of course, I thought she was pretty fabulous-looking from the beginning, but by All Good Things, she looked phenomenal.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that she didn't always look good, except for the short hair at the beginning of season three, I just think that season one was her best look.

I thought Beverly's best look was when Q turned her into an Irish Setter. :p

I always felt Tasha Yar's sister looked a bit "of the time". As did Beverley.

In a way though, looking at the pictures posted at the top of this thread....i would say the TNG cropped haircuts are still in fashion. Rather hip actually. You only have to refer to the queen of electro pop and the hipsters....ROBYN:

I never bought Ysharra as Tasha's sister. If you remember Tasha's memories of the colony, she looked like hell, and definitely did NOT have a salon-quality hairdo and makeup job, or clothes that didn't look like they'd been used for about ten different other things besides being worn.

The actress playing Ysharra was also on Dallas, as Patrick Duffy's girlfriend of the season, Tracy (daughter of villain Carter McKay, played by George Kennedy). She had stupid clothes and a dumb hairdo in that show, too. And she couldn't act there, either.

Well, I don't know about her acting, but Ishara had a better hairstyle on Dallas than she did on TNG.
