Also i can't see the viewport that we see from the exterior view.i wonder if it was a mistake made by the production people, has this issue ever been brought up over the years?

It's Captain Howdy!

Is that really a face in the window or just a wierd reflection?

I've never noticed it before, but my old "ABC Sunday Night Movie" VHS obviously wasn't in widescreen.

P.S. Tharpdevenport -- grandson, not grandfather.

I just assumed it was the Ensign or whoever would have piped the Admiral aboard. Or is the person who runs the airlock :)

It's actually a person. It moves and looks around, peeking out at the pod in 2 separate shots. Pretty sure it's a female.

She is first visible as the pod is turning around, and then as the camera closes on the door, where her head is a little out of scale. Or she is an alien with a huge head.

Can anyone blow that part of the screen shot up?
First, from this screencap:

Second, from the screencap mentioned above:

I think the second one looks like Jabba the Hutt.

That second one looks like a little cat. I used to think that Andy Probert sneaked onto the set and peered out of the window during the take. I think that this shot was done with a 1:1 set piece of the Enterprise hull.

It is strange, when I look at the LD or the dvd, I think it is very clearly the ensign who welcomes Kirk aboard. But when I see that frame blowup above ... it looks like a test shot of Xon from PHASE II.

That particular shot was done at EEG by Trumbull's people with a scaled-up piece of Enterprise engineering hull, so you're looking at a model that was maybe three or four feet across, with I guess a still or slide of the guy stuck inside the window.

Emperor Palpatine, obviously.

Before he could supervise something as big as the Death Star being constrcuted, he needed a trial run on a smaller project.

Oh...I'm afraid the transporter will be quite inoperational when your science officer arrives.
