ST:TMP on Blu-Ray - a second look

Could someone please tell me what they find endearing about the original klaxon? I remember it being really obnoxious.

For me it "sounded" and "felt" real and gets your attention.

That, coupled with Goldsmith's brilliant score, gave that scene a real sense of urgency, IMO.
