With everyone anxious to see Tobias' and Daren's effects work, I wanted to toot my horn a bit, if it's not too rude of me.
Here's what Mark Edward Lewis, the Post Production Supervisor, Director, and Editor on the show said:
"I can confirm that
Pony Horton has completed his last shot of the movie.
Folks, for me, there are two heroes of this production:
Jeff Barklage on the production end and Pony on the Post end.
You need to understand that from the day I finished the soft lock and posted the VFX list (of over 160 non-space oriented shots) Pony has been working EVERY DAY. This means a start in early August. Folks, this is incredible not only for our movie but for his career.
He has done incredible work of over 40 shots on the Guardian, at least 8 shots of windows, more than 15 shots of rotoing things we shouldn't see, newspaper computer archive searches, hospital exteriors both from our plates and COMPLETE FABRICATED NIGHT SHOTS... Then, just when he thought he could relax - after having more than made his deadline, he had to pinch hit on some VERY COMPLEX Klingon forcefield shots FROM SCRATCH which he had not planned on doing. He was working for nearly 36 hours straight to get them done. Moreover, so many shots had issues that made compositing incredibly difficult. All told, his shot count is well above 70.
And while there are several other Post heroes like
Tobias Richter who completed all 20 VFX space shots in under 5 weeks along with a bunch of other roto work, and Daren who pinch hit for us on several roto shots when our regular batter decided to show up late to the game, Pony's shot count is more than double anyone else's...and he's been with us in post from the day we yelled, "Soft Lock complete."
Many of you know of Pony's health situation, and just how rich he is...but I'm here to say that the richest people on the planet are we who get to work with his INCREDIBLE work ethic, kind and CRAZY demeanor, and ever-willigness to sacrifice - 99% of the time not from his doing - without complaint or concern - in order to make our productions happen.
I urge you all to join me in congratulating Pony on work - which will go largely unsung to the viewing audience - on a job that was impossible for anyone else to do - being completed in honor and in excellence.
My heartfelt and ever grateful congratulations to you Pony, for everything that you did, and everything which you didn't do in order to make this film a reality.
Huzzah!"
Thanks, Mark!
AS well, thanks to James Cawley for letting me hang around since 2007, thanks to Doug Drexler, Tobias Richter, and other VFX people I have learned so much from.
And thanks as well to our viewers who keep us on our toes! We do it all for you!
(Well, okay, maybe not ALL for you.. we DO kinda get off on it ourselves!)
