ST:P2 Blood and Fire trailer...

So, I was wandering around the youtubes today after work when I stumbled upon this really cool trailer for Blood and Fire which I hadn't seen before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyLARt3J4fk

Anyone know where this came from? Is it "official" from the P2 staff or is this something a fan put together? Very cool.

We actually put that together ourselves, but it's not one of our "official" trailers (although I'm not sure what constitutes official versus unofficial if we actually released it ourselves). So it's "unofficial from the Phase II staff."

We put that out shortly after the trailer for J.J. Abrams Star Trek came out and everyone was talking about how cool that looked. So we thought "Well, we could do "cool looking" rather than "TOS looking," too. So, mostly as a joke and kind of on a lark, our "Blood and Fire" editor Brian Kelley slapped that goofly little edit together--just to put something together that looks "cool" and "current."

Of course, we've had people say "Well, that doesn't look very TOS. What's gotten into Phase II?" So just to calm everyone's fears, only the teaser looks cool. Our actual episode looks just as TOS '60s dorky as always.

I used to know what Brian used as his source music. Sorry that I can't remember; maybe someone here recognizes it.

On our crew, our favorite moment in the trailer is the tight "boom-boom-boom" zoom in on Lieutenant Xon (played by Patrick Bell) right after Peter Kirk's line "He's not human: he's James T. Kirk." We all call this the "Xon xoom."

Also, you asked if this is something Phase II put together or is it something a fan did? But this is just a reminder that Phase II is just a bunch of fans. So, I understand your dichotomy, but it's one we try not to subscribe to. We are fans too and we believe ourselves to be representing fans' interests.

Cool. Even though it was outside of the "tos style" I liked it alot.

Two things. First, you guys represent a special segment of the fan base. You guys are the "Fan's Fan". So even though you see yourselves as "just fans", with regard to Phase two, you guys are "the show". ;)

Two, I hope that you guys do a trailer cut for each Phase II episode like this from now on, just for fun.

Hm. Well, doing a "cool" trailer for each episode in addition to a regular TOS-style one is a fun idea. Maybe we'll do it. On the other hand, we have Brian pulled away from editing the actual episode to do little projects like this and then people complain "Why isn't 'Blood and Fire' out yet?" So, we do have limited resources and putting our resources onto one project really does pull them off of other projects. We constantly have to weigh how cool something would be versus what the costs would be to some other task.

But we'll probably continue to do these kinds of teasers. It seems to have gone over well.

I also understand you think we are some special kind of fan. That might be true. But it's important for you to know that we generally don't think of ourselves that way. I think the time we notice this most profoundly is when fans try to tell us not to do x, y, or z on our series because the fans don't want that. (I guess having gay characters is probably the classic example--but by no means the only one.) The fallacy to this argument is they are fans and so they "know" what fans want--presupposing that somehow we are not fans ourselves.

We don't purport to be speaking for all fans. (Fans are not one single monolithic, homogenous group, of course.) But it's important to remember that we are indeed a subset of fandom, not something apart from it.

This trailer is by far one of my favorites. Definately do more of these for future episodes. :bolian::bolian:

I'm an amateur DVD producer in my spare time. With my internet connection, it would take me a fews days to download any of your 'official' DVDs, so I just download the episodes and make my own DVDs, usually with bonus content not part of the 'official' ones. (ex. For CWM, I included the SNL skit 'The Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise' with John Belushi as Captain Kirk. I don't know if you guys included that with your 'offical' DVD or not.)

Anyway, this trailer is perfect for the main menu for my version of the 'Blood and Fire' DVD. I was wondering if there is a higher resolution version available for download anywhere. I used the Youtube version as a test for Part 1.

(Also, I don't sell my DVDs. I make them for my personal enjoyment only. Don't want you guys jumping to the wrong conclusion. :))

I had no idea all the New Voyages and Phase II trailers were on YouTube. This is cool to be able to compare them all in order; to see the progression and consideration of style.

Come What May (where it all started)

In Harm's Way 1 (weird rock music version)

In Harm's Way 2 (big feature film voice guy)

To Serve All My Days (almost as long as the episode LOL)

World Enough and Time (probably the most authentically TOS in style)

Hi Sharkey... or like I suggested, you can just go to our website (click Downloads -> Episodes - the images are all trailer windows). All but the Come What May Trailer are there - and in better quality.

Star Trek Phase 2

Cool, except "Come What May" is really the nascent point, so it's nice to have that as a benchmark.

(and it plays up the reality that only one trailer of the seven actually mimicked the TOS style directly.)

The three trailers (so far) that mimic the old TOS scenes from next week-type "Next Voyage" previews are:

"World Enough and Time"
"Blood and Fire, Part 1"
"Blood and Fire, Part 2"

I suspect that when we release "Blood and Fire, Part 2" soon, it, too, will have a "Next Voyage" trailer.

I didn't find a trailer for Blood and Fire with the actual "Next Time" opener. Guess I need to keep looking.

Maybe at the P2 website? :techman:
