Spore Has Gone Gold!

I had no issues with the online authentication system, didn't even notice it.

I'm still in Creature Stage on my first creature, because I'm easily distracted. One thing I've noticed within Creature Stage is that as your species evolves and you're able to add more members to your pack, the temptation to seek combat over friendship increases. Additional pack members don't appear to convey any social benefits when interacting with other species, but they certainly convey combat benefits. I'm not sure if this is user error, a design flaw, or not-so-subtle commentary from the development team.

That isn't the part that concerns me, it's that you basically have three installs, and that's it. Or possibly less even if you're just updating some hardware. As someone who never lets go of games, and installs them off and on over the years, it worries me. Add to that that both my computers are in line to be replaced...

Although, slightly annoyed that you have to be connected to the internet to play (at least every other week). It's a no go on the basement gaming computer for sure.

Like Mass Effect, the removed the bit where it re-auths every 10 days. Now it only does it on install.

But with Spore, you really want to have a persistent connection anyway... that's half the point of the game.

So I just advanced to Tribal Stage, at the end of Creature Stage one of my creatures re-enacted The Dawn of Man from 2001, complete with Also sprach Zarathustra.

Been watching some guy stream the space stage all night. He's down on some planet toying around with epics. Then, he ran into a crater. In that crater was a TARDIS.

£39.99 for a digital download, are they insane.

Plus what does it take to get logged in, do i need to sacrifice a goat or something, anyway after the fiasco that was BFBC online and now the problems that the demo has signing into their servers i will be giving this one a miss.

^^^^Yeah i see amazon are doing it delivered for just a few pence under £27.....i was considering it but if the demo has issues getting online then i definitely don't want to pay for a game that once again has online issues, especially when you really need to be connected to the servers to play the game at its full potential.

I've had no problems with the trial of Creature Creator.

OK, I should have tried logging on to it before I said that.

Whooppee. The Creature Creator keeps crashing on me every time I try to save a new creature. I haven't played it lately. Still, I can brag about having created a "Phallussaurus."

There's something really strange about the built in graphic settings for this game. It looks like it has really bad LOD, no FSAA, AA, or much smoothing. I would think they would only neuter a game like that if that's the only way to make it playable.

But, I forced (through the NVcontrol panel) 8XAA, 4xFSAA, supersampling, full texture detail, and any other setting I could think of for 1920x1080. And, it's still running completely smooth (except if I run into a huge pit of lava). But, it looks 10 times better.

I played for about 5 hours straight last night (from cell to space in one sitting... I sort of lost track of time :o) and didn't get a single crash.

Also, my profile.

Something sort of freaky that happened was the epic creature when I was in the creature phase was one of my favorite creations from back when the creature creator came out..... seeing a giant version of it trying to step on me was not what I was expecting when I first made it!

Brought it home this morning, loaded it without a hitch and promptly spent six hours playing. Damn this thing is addictive. Its the little inside jokes and surprises that get me. During my first attempt I ran headfirst into giant Godzilla and Cthuhlu fight. And in a later game, I wasn't watching my back, ran into 'zilla who promptly grabbed, me, took a bite, then tossed me about 50 yards. :wtf:

Gotta say though that the planetscapes are just gorgeous. I'm currently on a world of giant mushrooms, and a huge pink ringed planet in the sky. Though the bright pink sky takes some getting used to. :)

Will admit I was stuck in the Creature phase for a bit. Had to restart when my carnivores kept starving to death. Then got stuck until I decided to concentrate on the parts that worked best, rather than going for the look I wanted. Besides, once you win that level, the game lets you mod your creature one more time before you move to tribal.

Goddamn EA and their online authentication. I just moved into a new apartment, and I won't have internet until the 17th. :(
