*Spoilers* U.S.S. Franklin Design?

Look what I got today:cool::cool:

It looks great next to my Art Asylum Enterprise NX-01 (and the scale looks pretty good too) :)

So the longitudal strakes atop the port and starboard superstructures are for sliding the docking clamps in? Good to have that cleared up!

...What does the inside of the saucer aft cut look like? Anything that might be a door or a docking port? What's the detail aft of the bridge? Any trace of gunports, missile tubes, lift engines, landing pads?

There's a hatch aft of the bridge deck, a ring of thruster ports on the underside of the saucer and something that could be some kind of navigational deflector or pair of torpedo launchers at the front of the bottom deck.

Thanks! Those inset, paired things on the underside look like standard Trek guns, but why are there no dorsal counterparts (when red bolts definitely spit out from the top of the saucer)? Lifting thrusters after all?

Finally a better look! What does the pylon connection both to the saucer and to the nacelles look like?

I have to say, the Franklin is one of the most beautiful starship designs coming out of the franchise in a long time. And the Eaglemoss model looks all kinds of awesome, too. I hope it arrives here soon.

Definitely thrusters, you see them active during the "jump start" sequence.
The phase cannons aren't on the model, they're little pop-up dohickeys either side of the name on the saucer top, seen best when the ship decloaks:

In the magazine, it's said the ship was originally unarmed but a late script change meant they had to squeeze some weapons in there somewhere.

Here's the connection between the pylon and the saucer

First thing I noticed that's different to the Blu-Ray set model: the lines on the pylons are gray instead of red. Were they red or grey in the movie?

Just rewatched the movie and couldn't say. I'd guess if they're there at all they're extremely faded, as you can't make out any pennants on the ship. The pictures of the CG model in the magazine (and on the cover as seen HERE) have it as faded orange.

Looking at the Franklin model from Eaglemoss I noticed how there are basic hints of the Warp Delta ship inside the design. Which is nice, because it gives a clue as to how Starfleet ships developed from the triangle shape to the saucer configuration. At least it does for me.

Agreed. In the Eaglemoss magazine accompanying the latest NX-326 model iteration, early versions of the USS Pioneer features a triangular saucer.

^ Yeah, you are right, the early version had a shovel-like shape as the saucer.

Another thing I hadn't noticed before is that the Warp Delta ship actually seems to have a Kelvinverse-style bridge window, too. Nice!

The TOS movie bridges also featured a square lit area around there. Doesn't mean it would have been transparent. But who knows...

The funny thing about the Franklin is that she's so clearly and eminently capable of operating out of atmospheres and planetary surfaces. Dedicated lifting engines, large winglike shapes, this family resemblance to the Warp Delta (the novels call 'er Ganges class nowadays)... Sort of digs the ground from under Scotty's worries.

To be honest, I think going without the red lining on the Eaglemoss model was a good decision. Looking at the movie screenshots it's obvious that they are very faded and not nearly as pronounced as they are on the other Franklin models.

The things I agree with in the TrekCore review are the misaligned windows on the rim (which are explained by Ben Robinson), and the idea to have a darkened piece of plastic for the bridge window. This would have gone such a long way to make the model more believable.
