SPOILERS: Jason Isaacs out??

Captain Lorca's 'big secret' has been revealed, and with the character vilified, dead and vaporized, and Chrispher Pike in command of Discovery, it seems like Jason Isaacs has a perfect exit opportunity.

Isaacs was reticent from beginning about playing Captain Lorca (and to a certain degree, about the Star Trek franchise in general). By his own admission, he had to be coerced into accepting the role through promises of creative control over his character - in particular, he wanted his character to have a 'big secret' to motivate him.

With that secret now having run its course, and Isaacs not known for playing 'nice guy' parts, as well as being very lukewarm about the Lorca role, are we perhaps seeing the seeds being sewn for a replacement of Discovery's captain? The fact that Anson Mount, a well-respected and marketable actor, has been brought in to fill the void left by Isaacs seems to suggest that the showrunners are looking for a new long-term relationship.

DISCLAIMER: I know that Jason Isaacs is on the casting sheet for Season 2. This doesn't mean that he's going to feature heavily - it could be little more than flashback scenes.

What do you think?
Given Issacs was never 'in' for the second season, IDK what the big deal is. He stated he was contracted only for the first season. Might they bring him back (either as his surviving PU version, or state somehow the PU version survived, etc.)? yep.

As for being 'lukewarm' about the role, I never got that impression. He LIKED the role a lot; and admitted to being a fan of TOS himself. Just because he either wasn't asked/didn't want to sign a multi-season commitment? I wouldn't read anything more than - he was cast for a role that played a major part in the story of ST: D Season 1, but they weren't continuing that story element fo season 2. Bid deal.

Hell, the way you paint Issac's retraction to them wanting to cast him for Season 1 MIRRORS Patrick Stewart's return to the role of Picard for the series they're going to do entering on him. When they first approach Mr. Stewart he said no; and had no desire to return to the role. Then when they told him - "It won't be a TNG reboot/continuation; and will give you creative input too..." he was suddenly "Okay, sign me up."

As for Anson Mount and Captain Pike; I have a feeling he'll return to command of the 1701 once the story arc is ended. He's taking Command of Discovery because they need to get to the 7 areas as fast as possible and with the Spore Drive (which I'm sure Stafleet is allowing to be used because of the nature of this situation); is the quickest way to do that.

We've already been there, why go back ever?

For ReguLorca, of course.

And who knows, maybe the Empress still wants to return home?

Pike must eventually return to the Enterprise, because he will one day turn over the captaincy of the ship to Kirk.

And? Culber is dead, and we're seeing how that works out...

Yeah, just because we saw him get stabbed and vaporized doesn't mean MirrorLorca's gone forever. He died falling into the center of the spore drive core, in the same arc of episodes we saw hints that the spore network had spooky goings on that might be connected to Culber and the afterlife.

If they wanted to bring him back, then they can bring him back. Especially in a show with time travel, alternate universes (SimiLorca), high-tech cloning, illusions of all shapes and sizes, and apparently highly-detailed 23rd-century holograms.

Lorca is going to be like Wells from Flash. They’ll just get another universe version of him. We need to see his Sherlock Holmes version.

He'll probably still be Lorcing around in the bushes somewhere next season.

(probably Cornwell's)

Wait, someone said Prime Lorca is dead? I don't remember that, and at the very least, the novels have made it very clear he is alive.
Someone did say he was dead, but as Tuskin38 mentioned above, it was an assumption and not based on any actual proof of death. It was Admiral Cornwell in "The War Without, The War Within" who said this:

"From what you've told us about the Terran Empire, no Starfleet officer could survive that universe alone. So my Gabriel is dead."

From the list of many right assumptions and decisions made by Discovery Era Admirals, from an officer whose greatest tactical move was against a bowl of perfectly innocent cookies.

Correct.
Which is why in my original l post I said the people who said Prime Lorca is dead could be wrong:
Yeah -- it was said he was dead, but the people who said that could easily have been wrong.
