*SPOILERS* If you could change one thing about the film...

One cosmetic change - make engineering less sucky.

One script change - Flesh out Nero. His motivation didn't make much sense. The flashback scene where he is finally explained was cheesy and didn't really work. Bana was great, but his character was poorly defined.

Now that I think about it, I would have added more starship porn.

Agreed. More beauty shots of the Enterprise in the next movie.

I would have had at least 250,000 Vulcans left. 10,000 seems incredibly bleak, but I understood that it was part of the story, so I'll let it pass.

Maybe change one or two lines in Spock's mind meld exposition, so we had a better feel for the sequence of events. If they won't let me do that, lose the switchy-barrel phasers. But that's about it.

- More quiet character building moments in the first half of the film.
- Pine should have read the Star Trek introduction.

Other than that, this movie was everything I wanted a Star Trek film in 2009 to be.

I'd cut down the slapstick, eg Kirk's big hands (although the audiance loved it) and I'd have a proper engineering and less Big Vats.

Jack

CashCrowe, I also think Pine should read "the speech". Maybe they're reserving it for the next movie...

Also, as someone pointed out, we need a scene between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, in true fashion. Again, maybe they're doing it for next time...

Flesh out Nero
The film could have done with being an 30 mins or 1 hour longer so that they could emphasise more on their childhoods, i.e spock on vulcan and kirk on earth.

1. Eliminate that whole Spock/ Uhura thing (seriously HE is HER professor! remember the line about being his best student?)

2. Amanda, Spock's mother dying.

3. Vulcan being eliminated. (amok time was just to pivitol to remove from cannon)

I think some of it was dont just to shock for the sake of shocking. Not so must to carry a story.

I'd have Kirk and co. return to the academy at the end, flash forwards a few years where Kirk relieves Pike from command of the ship -following the Delta radiation accident?- Rather than a cadet being given the ship at the end. Just seems silly and still means the next movie has a "kid" in charge of a ship.

"Sorry, Captain Pike. As great and distinguished as you are we think the Federation flagship is better served in the hands of this cadet!"

Sorry, that part doesn't fly with me.
