Spoiler! Casting rumour for next season.

:guffaw:

Yeah Gillian in Who would be great, gorgeous and talented, I just hope they get her for more than one ep!

If we're defining "mainstream talent" as "had a regular role on an American TV show," I guess.
Yeah, but that was after "The Girl in the Fireplace."
Point, though of course I don't think it's actually a good definition of "mainstream talent" anyway.

I doubt actors pay much attention to the name of the scriptwriter- the fact that it's a Doctor Who part that's physically and dramatically suitable to them is the significant part. I don't think Alex Kingston said, "Good lord, a Steven Moffat script! Sign me up!"

Oh, and Gillian Anderson is great, so I hope this is true, whatever her reasons might be.

I'd be happy with that. I'm one of those odd people who thought Kate O'Mara was a much better villain than the idiotic, sub-Delgado Ainley Master.

I just hope Gillian can turn her foes into more convincing trees.

Well she could very well play a Time Lord, hasn't Moffet hinted that the Time Lords are making a come back?

I very much doubt it- when Moffat was asked ten years ago about his own vision for bringing the series back, he said he'd "chuck out" all the "yawn-inducing Gallifrey rubbish." Granted, he also said that he'd prefer to cast an older Doctor and that an unknown actor probably wouldn't be up to the part, so at least some of his views have changed. But I don't see any reason to suspect he's had some epiphany about the brilliance of Time Lord backstory.

Some people have speculated that the Time Lords might come back under Moffat because they seem to think the absence of the Time Lords is an RTD storyline that he'll "fix" as he leaves. I doubt it, but we'll see.

"I don’t care where the Doctor came from or why he travels around the universe, I just want him out of those TARDIS doors and having adventures. Us kids want Narnia, not the wardrobe."

That's one of Moffat's quotes on the subject of the Time Lords.

I don't care who she plays, get her on the show!

"Gillian Anderson cast as a plant in the background of a little hospital shop"

:p

Since she's been living in England, she seems to have developed a "Madonna Syndrome" where she has started slipping into an faux English accent

Well the thing is, I LOVE the references to The Doctors past, it's what I actively look out for when watching Doctor Who. I wasn't there for the "boring Gallifrey stuff", so when something comes up about The Doctors past, his people etc, I really enjoy it.

I just heard about this from photography instructor on our last day of training for that course. I was skeptical when he told me and I still am. We shall see...

But he was just punning with the whole gay thing.

I always enjoyed the adventures where they went into the bowels of the TARDIS, edge of destruction, castrovalva, the masque of mandragona, and you begine to wonder how damn big is this place? I mean look at the size of te mans boot closet... I think I recall reading somethign were there was a beach and a small ocean in there somewhere, but that's just shades of Rama anyway.

I don't get the Rani hate, for one reason: don't you think da Moff could do something interesting with her? Thnk of the Master, even the original was a moustache twirling villain (with admittedly a few extra layers) and then think of the Jacobi/Simms version.

Because its too spectacular to be serious, or if they spend an entire season building towards her ultimate explosive appearance, it just becomes entirely samey...

You can't bring back another lone survivor who miraculously escaped the culling Timelord unless you're going to bring them all back because last bloody Timelord has to mean last bloody Timelord with some conviction finally...

I don't get the Rani hate, for one reason: don't you think da Moff could do something interesting with her?
No, because I can't think of anything interesting that would require the character of the Rani. The Master works because there's an effective basic concept: the Doctor's opposite number. The Rani's just a generic unethical scientist. She doesn't need to be a Time Lord, except for cheap dramatic effect. If Moffat wants an unethical scientist type, he can come up with his own, not go back to a character who's hated by the only people who remember her.

And if she wants a baby?

"You don't think I'm attractive? You don't think I'm attractive?! You don't think I'm attractive!!"

(regenerates)

"How about now?"

You know, it did occur to me that the only way to make a villainous Time Lady distinctive and dramatically necessary would be if she was the Doctor's ex-girlfriend. Which would be right up Moffat's alley, except that it's a horrible idea that doesn't lead anywhere interesting.

While I realize it's unlikely, has anyone considered that Anderson might appear in the episode as... Dana Scully? On loan to UNIT or Torchwood from the FBI perhaps?

Torchwood in particular really needs a new doctor now that Owen is croaked for good, and since we know Dr Martha Jones won't be taking over that position... and, well, Scully is an MD, with hands-on extra-terrestrial experiences to boot. I think she'd fit in just fine.

And isn't there already supposed to be some overlap between at least one of the Who specials and the 5-ep Torchwood mini?

Yea, it's fanwank, but I like it.

^RE: Dana Scully

Imagination-wise? Totally.

Legally? Wouldn't happen.
