Spock's Brain

Re: Spock's Brain -- Orci Timeline Version...LOL!!!

mini skirts..high boots...

what's not too like?

Star Trek's spinoff series' have many, many worse and more horrific epsiodes than "Spock's Brain." Consider for example Enterprise's "A Night in Sickbay". Say what you will about "Spock's Brain", at least it doesn't involve Kirk's dog peeing on an alien plant as a major plot point. And at no time during the episode does McCoy suggest to Kirk that the real reason he's upset about Spock's brain being stolen is that he needs to get laid with Uhura.
ANIS they Must have Been Drunk when they wrote that one

I thought it was an intentionally over-the-top lampooning of misogynistic fears concerning women's liberation.

Did Gene Coon ever comment on it?

well its better than lost in space, where in teh third seaon in 1968 to 1970: The hippie movement was happen'n so to speak and it went from hippie groovy peace flower power and psychadelic music to disco and gogo dancing thing embedded in the episodes.

At least Trek did not go that far. They had the high boots skimpy dresses and stuff and maybe koenings monkees wig, not the dancing thing..

ALTHOUGH I think the episode -This way to Eden:

Nimoy and the hippie chick with the harp was PRETTY COOL...

"Spock and Roll."

The space hippie episode of LIS is actually WORSE than The Way to Eden...if anyone can imagine that! :rommie:

I like the women. I swear there's a hint of bush showing here and there.

Joe, one-tracked

Good. I see I'm not the only person obsessed with the genitalia of the crew and the various characters . The women aren't my fancy...but I noticed from a very tender age that my Kirk hangs to the left...and if nothing else, then at least that is consistent throughout all 3 seasons.

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

So there IS something I never noticed in all these years of watching these episodes over and over again...

I never notice the Spock's Brain 60's bush either!

But, um...now you've got my curiosity up!

Really!?? You've never noticed Kirk's humongously modest package perched to the left? Well you are in for a treat then! I recommend watching an ep of trek and then check out that big bad mama movie for his ass.

When you say your curiosity is "up"...do you mean that both figuratively and literally...?? :p

That would be telling.

Of course you must realize that curiosity is only for the Imorgs...

It felt like they were going out of their way to make 50s style popcorn flick.

"His BRAIN is gone!!!"
Yes, it was meant as FUN fun :bolian:
No, I don't think that it was. I know they didn't take themselves too seriously with this episode, but it certainly wasn't meant as a straight comedy episode either.
Yeah, I'd agree that it was unintentionally funny. Not as much injected humor as seen in "Shore Leave" or "A Piece of the Action." Certainly the way the men and women were portrayed was just a bit ridiculous. And the clicking sound when Spock walked... I was wondering if they put a windup spring of some kind inside him. LOL

One of my fav fun eps and one of the best Bones lines.

"I shouldn't have done it."
"Done what?"
'Reconnected his vocals cords." or something like that.

Yep, that was a conversation between Kirk and McCoy, saw it just the other day.

I've heard people reference "Spock's Brain" as one of the worst episodes, it probably isn't far off being the worst, but it doesn't come close to the horror of "The Alternative Factor" (which may be the worst episode ever, barring TAS).

There are many episodes of TAS that make lots more sense than 'The Alternative Factor.'

The only partially redeeming thing from 'TAF' was Lazarus's neat little saucer-ship, which I always wished would have been reused as an Enterprise pod of some kind, but wasn't. Hell, maybe that's what Ben Finney wasn't in when Kirk didn't push the button?

Ok, bought the script for this one (Spock's Brain) from Roddenberry.com and I have a couple of questions (hopefully, one of you can/will answer them). At Curt's Media's Star Trek History site, there are/were pictures of "Robo-Spock" on the bridge with McCoy and Scotty and a picture of Kirk, Chekov and Sulu looking back at them while Kirk and Chekov stand in front of the viewscreen showing the Sigma Draconis system graphic. Of course, none of this made it to the final broadcast and syndicated cuts of the episode.

My question is this -- does this scene appear in any version of the script for this episode? While there are some differences between the script and episode as aired, this scene does not appear in the draft of the script that they are selling at Roddenberry.com

There was also a photo at Star Trek History of Scotty at a computer station in Sickbay studying up on how to prepare "Robo-Spock". But, again, this scene is not in the version of the script I got from Roddenberry.com.

Can anyone shed some light on these discrepancies -- or even better -- provide the dialogue for these cut scenes?

Star Trek History had provided dialogue for other cut sequences from TOS -- Elaan of Troyius for example -- but did not do the same for the cut Spock's Brain scenes.

Anyone who who can shed some light on this would be GAWD in my book!
