There's a Heroes season 4 preview trailer out. That pretty much seems like the highlight of what I've seen of Comic-Con so far.

Sylar vs. Spock question from Comic-Con

The Heroes panel seems quite focused on Zach (Adrian and Jack are hilarious, too):

Adrian talked about having Zach's voice saying naughty things on his iPhone and Jack makes a comment about not having any powers ("Some of us don't have any."/"I have the power of impaired vision.").

Notice how in the intro that the audience is inundated with Zach's fangirls (Sarmy makes an appearance in the questioning segment as well). Poor everyone else. :lol:

The burying-alive thing is so awesome! Nathan gets "killed" by the Carnival and is buried--it seems to get back at Angela--but, being that it's Sylar, he heals and digs himself out of the grave in ZQ form. And it looks like the Sylar with baby Matt scene is Matt feeling guilt over what he did and imagining Sylar talking to him, telling him he wants his body back.

Pathetically enough, I'm in San Diego and not at Comic-Con. I've still never gone. :wah:

Dammit. I'm a shame to all the nerds who have to come a lot further than a 20-minute trip downtown.
 
well hey, you made up some for it here!
....and at least you live in a place that (i have heard) isn't still stuck largely in the 1950s.
 
Not stuck in the 1950s...? Well, if you look past all the freeways, beaches, shopping centers, Mexican food, yachts, airports, military bases, Naval carriers and palm trees... You get crops and horses. San Diego isn't quite downtown L.A. ;) Especially if you've ever been to East San Diego... which might as well be Kansas.

But hey, we've got Sea World, the zoo, the wild animal park, the Del Mar Fair (and racetrack)... and Comic-Con, the geek epicenter of the world.
 
have you BEEN to kansas? ....i'm not sure even kansas can hold a candle to ohio, so far as parochial closed-mindedness goes. sure, it's flat and boring. ohio is quite beautiful in many places, but it's the people who make it uncomfortable for someone like me. cali actually is high on my wish list of places to get to. comic con is just more evidence that it must be pretty cool out there. best thing we have here is notacon, which is aimed at self-conscious uber-geeks, and not terribly well advertised.

so, enjoy cali, for those of us stuck in some cultural backwater.
and keep on posting awesome stuff! (even if it's not originally yours....)
 
East San Diego = dirt and rock mountains, rocks, tumbleweeds, brush that catches on fire every few years, horse ranches, casinos, Hometown Buffet with fat people and people wearing cowboy hats... And dirt. Lots of dry dirt.

And I actually have been to Kansas. My mom's dad is from Kansas (and the family are all Kansas/Missouri farm people that are still stuck in the Depression). And he runs a horse ranch out in Jamul (the boonies of East San Diego).

Not all of San Diego is the postcards you've seen. ;) Granted, the palm trees and beaches are quite lovely.

You can barely notice a difference between San Ysidro, California and Tijuana, Baja California other than the street signs changing languages. Well, we don't have nearly as many donkeys with painted zebra stripes on this side of the border. LOL.

I think a lot of people would be shocked by just how much of California is toolieville. Have you taken a nice, long whiff of the San Joaquín Valley lately? :guffaw: Moo! You've got to just love miles and miles of nothing but the smell of cow manure. And don't forget about Ojai. They still have aging hippies who live in tepees.

But yep. We do have quite a few lucky things in this state as far as amusement is concerned.

P.S. As far as politics go, you'll find San Diego and San Francisco should be in two different states. NOTHING in common.

yikes.... east san diego sounds like the midwest transplanted. i am smart enough to surmise that postcards are not everything. i have also done a lot of reading. dunno about SD in particular, but i hear on the coasts people actually think.... at least some of the time. level of education overall is higher. i would just love to be somewhere where education in general is looked at as admirable, rather than being some kind of sell-out or something.
stuck in the depression?? wow.... and i thought i had it bad....
 
Well, granted, the family members stuck in the Depression actually lived through it (very elderly), but it did affect how my mom and others were raised (like getting in trouble for getting a topping on her ice cream which cost 10¢ instead of 5¢). My grandpa carries a huge wad of cash in his front shirt pocket (very Depression-era behavior, though he has gotten very generous as he has gotten older). My mom turned out well though (although she basically made a big thing about giving me--her only child--everything she ever wanted growing up).

But anyway...

Did you enjoy the Comic-Con panel? You kind of knew the topic of Spock would come up. It's funny how Zach said Leonard would beat him and Spock would win because he believes in the good guy winning.
 
Thanks for the link to the Spock vs. Sylar question, Nile! His answer couldn't be more adorable... I loved how everyone said "Awwww..." in response! :adore:

Also, his arms are looking mighty nice there.
 
Yep, it appears that people are noticing that he seems to be bulking up a bit lately. :drool: I wouldn't mind a few scenes in the romantic category. ;)

Watch that expanded trailer. It's really nifty. The Sylathan-gets-a-surprise-jolt bit, Matt's Sylar nightmares and the buried alive scenes have me very amused/intrigued.

Well, one thing's for sure, at this rate he'll be the most muscular Spock ever underneath that Starfleet uniform in the next film.

As I said before... ZQ was getting all the fangirl hollering. Poor everyone else. His presence sort of took over the whole thing. Check out the screams during the trailer.

The fanboys hoping that Sylar goes away and gets killed off because they want a new villain aren't going to get their wish, IMO. The Heroes crew and NBC would be INSANE to let ZQ go away for reasons other than his further career opportunities (they've already appeared to have scheduled this season's shooting schedule of Heroes with the ST XII shooting schedule in mind--being that it is 18 episodes long in the fall/winter before ZQ has to head over to ST circa December). They won't be killing him off and despite all the fanboy whining, the fangirls appear to have very different opinions (as clearly evidenced by all Comic-Con footage). He's the big commodity of the show and the breakout star.

I don't know if it's really that gender-divided as you think. I know a straight male who's a huge fan a Heroes mostly because of Sylar; Sylar and Sawyer from Lost are the two characters he idolizes the most. Other guys I know who watch Heroes also think that Sylar is the best character or one of the best. I think that, as it usually happens with most things (STXI is a good example), the haters are in the minority, but they seem more numerous because they are loud.

ZQ has been bulking up for the last few years, really. Compare him in season 1 and in season 3 - quite a difference.

I suspected as much, but the minority 'haters' like to tell you how they aren't the minority. They even go to great pains to tell you how this is the opinion of everyone they've talked to about it. I remember bringing up a poll done on a Heroes forum where they asked if you liked Sylar or not (it was started by a hater, in fact) and it was 3/4 who liked him and 1/4 who don't. And yet, on the Internet, the amount of postings by the haters just overwhelm the positive posts by a huge margin (Sarmy aside).

And I kinda have noticed a trend in males vs. females (this is true for a great many fandoms really). While I'm sure these types of characters that are *generally* favored by the female audience tend to get the most noise from the [largely male in this instance] 'hater' crowd (these same males often prefer the average Joe characters--IE. In Jossverse terms this usually presents itself as the female Angel/Spike fans vs. male Xander fans--a character whose actor was actually told that the writers didn't have any more plans for him because of their disinterest in the character). I kind of see the same thing happening here with Sylar. Of course, it's great that every character has their biggest cheerleaders, but some of these vocal minorities almost make them seem like the majority at times because they work just that much harder.

(For the record, I know several very prolific male fans who are usually behind heavily female favorites like Angel, Spike, Wesley, etc... It isn't a totally mass-generalization.)

Well, I'm sure you can guess which characters get the most media attention. It's the Fonzie effect (the extreme example).

To bring it back to Star Trek, you can see the same thing with Kirk vs. Spock. You let the guys into the thread and it has an upswing for Kirk usually, while the females here certainly seem to prefer Spock and McCoy. Girls prefer Uhura while guys prefer Gaila is another one.

It's just kind of interesting to watch fandom trends.

But Comic-Cons and pure audience reaction often does give a very different picture than the vocal Internet minority.
 
Just delurking to thank Nile for the link to the Heroes comic con vids. Though I think I'd have a better idea of what was going on with out the fangirl screaming everytime Sylar appeared. :lol:
