Spock News

Go watch Leonard Nimoy interviews where he talks about finding the character. It's a mistake. There's really no valid debate to be had over it.

Yet Nimoy gave his blessing to the Zach Quinto version of the character.

Nothing wrong with family dynamics in Star Trek. Some really good episodes in that catagory (Journey To Babel, Family, Brothers ect) "Strange, new worlds" is actually pretty low on my want list.
Nothing wrong with a bit, but if that's what I'm after I'll read Wuthering Heights, my Kindle destination after posting this. As I said, I know I'm in the minority. I like more trad scifi.

I ' m pretty meh on DSC, but I think they should let it be its own thing. Al most seems like tptb don't think it strong enough without all the TOS stuff.

i know I a m in the minority, but I don' t really want family dynamics drama/melodrama. I would like strange, new worlds, moral conundrums, what-ifs, allegories, you know, star trek.
Yeah, ST: D is the first spin off to trade of Star Trek's past...oh, wait...

- ST:TNG had TOS era props and models (like the Class F shuttlecraft from TOS in the background of a lot of it's scene shots; and hell, it's first post pilot episode "The Naked Now" was a (very poor) remake of "The Naked Time" from TOS S1. In season 2 of TNG the ditched Dr. Crusher and replaced her withj a female carbon copy of Dr. Leonard McCoy named Dr. Katherine Pulaski. She was, like McCoy - afraid to use the Transporter, was "an old country doctor" and they even had her try to verbally spar with Data in an attempt to create the TOS McCoy vs. Spock dynamic. <--- That failed badly because the TNG writers didn't write Data like TOS writers did Spock so when Pulaski tore into Data, unlike Spock who was more 'worldly' and able to hold his own; Data was more a naive child in many respects so it came off like abuse and was dropped.

- ST: DS9 had the Enterprise 1701-D and Captain Picard in the pilot; chief O'Brien transferred off the 1701-D with his family from TNG to become a regular; they had the Klingon Duras Sisters and Q make an appearance withing the first 10 episodes; and at the start of teh 4th Season Worf (from TNG) transferred to DS9 permanently (Yet still just happened to be travelling/om leave and near the 17-01-D for every TNG feature film <--- What a coincidence eh?

- ST: VOY started it's journey into 'The Badlands' fron DS9 and had Quark appear in the pilot. It also had Q and William T. Riker show up in it's first season. (Can't say what happened in later seasons as I stopped watching it after "The 37's")

Also, ST: D has has a total of 15 episodes to date. (TNG S1 and S2 combined was 48 episodes and I already detailed how much TNG traded off TOS for those two seasons. Yeah, I guess Paramount didn't have much faith in TNG for those seasons, eh?)

The TOS connections get stronger and stronger. Do they not think that DIS can stand on its own feet? I don't really mind it as I like TOS much more than DIS so far, so if DIS becomes more TOS like it can only make the series better. But it is still stupid. They should have just reboot TOS, if they like it so much. A modernized version of course with some changes, instead of a prequel, which uses numerous TOS elements.

Not nearly as much as Discovery did in fifteen episodes (and it apparently continues full bore in season 2). It is hilarious that anyone is even trying to suggest this. I'm not sure any of the shows relied on what came before as much as Discovery has and seemingly continues to do.

I fucking cringed at Saru's whole "who are the greatest Starfleet captains" non-sense.

That was season 2.
And Season 3. And Season 7! (Q anyway, if not Riker, that is.)

Riker's transporter clone from "Second Chances" (TNG) also shows up on DS9, though:

And Vash was in their Q episode too:

And Lwaxana Troi makes no less than three appearances:

And let's not forget these guys!

Not to mention...

And somehow we missed out the most obvious ones from TNG...

The best answer to this ever is, "Yeah! But that was different!" When someone likes it, it's always different...
