Spock News

I might've misunderstood BillJ's comment.

But I'm still done. Not with posting here. This is the first Star Trek series I've enjoyed in almost 20 years. I'll be damned if I let anyone ruin it for me, no matter what objections they have with the show. But I'm done with arguing over fanwank and canon. I just want to enjoy the show.

I have to do what feels right for me. And what feels right is to bow out of these debates. Not bowing out of talking about the show but talking about these particular things. We all know where we stand, it's not doing anything for me, and it takes up too much time, so it's time to moved passed this.

It's been a pleasure, everyone. See you around when it comes to talking about parts of the show that aren't talking about fanwank, canon, and timelines.

A-fuckin-men

So..., anybody got any guesses as to who's going to portray Adult Spock?
(since that is the main subject of this thread)
:vulcan:

What DSC added that was new to the MU was a multi-episode deep dive into what it feels like having to pretend to fit in with absolute savages just to survive. That blew every previous MU story out of the water for me, and it was a shame when they left it behind to go do generic imperial intrigue.

So for you you enjoyed the extra time spent there. Great. I liked the new uniforms and design stuff over there. Quite enjoyed Empress G, though could have lived without the shock gore. I think that though I liked the sense of sneaking around trying to blend in, I would have liked to have seen more of that happening rather than spending what felt like so much time in monologue and Burnhams bedroom.
Like I said, I have zero problem with what was done...I actually like seeing writers do something new with old stuff (The Orville is a guess the parts game some weeks, but that’s what makes it fun, seeing how it will then differ.) including in DSC.

It’s the first Trek launch I have enjoyed since Voyager. So I get that.

Me too. But for Trek to do it would make sense. Adam Nimoy, plus some tweaking and it could be done.
I don’t think Discovery could do it on their budget.

Rogue One had the backing of a movie budget and ILM and it wasn’t perfect.

I think sometimes it’s technique. Not to mention all the deep fakes stuff flying around now.
2049 did an amazing job not because of money, but because of technique and approach. I think it’s doable for the short scenes that could be necessary. Spock resting in a dimly lit sickbay, talking with his sister, ten fifteen minutes with plenty of long shots, reaction shots, careful use of existing footage. It would be interesting to see it done. The hard part would be keeping it in line with the DSC aesthetic. I would certainly find it preferable to recasting. Nimoy is surprisingly unique, so it makes it hard to recast. Quinto isn’t really close tbh.
