Spock Needs A Hobby....

Spock's Barber

I just watched a scene in Omega Glory where Spock rattles of the amount of time that Kirk was unconscious. The first thing that popped into my head was something McCoy might have said, "You green blooded hobgoblin! Don't you have something else to keep you occupied in your free time?"

I know that Spock liked to medidate and play his Vulcan harp, but couldn't you dream up something else Spock could do to keep him out of trouble during his down time on the Enterprise?

In "Journey to Babel", didn't Sarek allude to helping Spock build (or program) his first computer while still a young child? Maybe that was his shtick. Designing ever more efficient systems, developing new programming languages.

Okay, not very original, but I'm just extrapolating from broadcast material.

I don't think being incarcerated in a jail cell counts as his "free time."

As for his actual hobbies, there's also 3D chess.

Spock's main hobby is music. He's got his Vulcan lyrette, and he gave a sight-reading performance on piano in "Requiem for Methuselah."

It probably helped him figure out that the Obelisk inscription was musical notation in "The Paradise Syndrome."

I imagine that Spock has many hobbies when not at his post! His knowledge of many unknown creatures and lesser facts must come from his reading journals when he should be sleeping!

In "Requiem for Methuselah" Spock seemed to know every bit of work by Brahms and an artist I can't remember.

Spock could recognise their handwriting and every bit of work they both had done. So maybe Spock has art and music history as a hobby. I mean he knows every work by two Earth artists so just how many artists from how many planets does he know off by heart?
