Spinoff....

I admit I don’t see much point in a Year One (though of course I’d watch it, I’m a lemming), because what’s it really going to bring that we don’t already have? I’d much prefer a post-TMP series — but the thing is, I doubt the not-we remember TMP well enough to make it economically worthwhile, or in any way a selling point to a mass audience the way it would be to, say, me.
It has all the TOS characters and the nurses' uniforms are already proto-TMP uniforms. The ship's current aesthetic is already closer to TMP than TOS.

Honestly, that doesn't surprise me. The designs have hewn closer to TMP since Enterprise, with Kelvin then Discovery offering variations that feel like a good bridge to TMP, rather than the TMP then TWOK completely out of left field uniform changes.

They should be so lucky...

I don't ever want to see the post-23rd century "Trek universe" again, except maybe in a time travel episode...

As I think more about it, a post-TMP series or at least post-TOS/pre-TMP show might be more likely and practical. If the new PSKY leadership has plans for the franchise, they're likely theatrical and based around TOS. So doing a TV series in that exact setting with current cast may be off the table - if they'd permit it at all.

Post-TMP, they'd probably repaint the sets a bit and do new wardrobe...
People want Legacy. They loved Picard S3. TNG is a whole generation of fans, not everybody just goes back to TOS.

Year One however is arguably the safest bet for a new show:

Enterprise sets built for DSC still standing
They have several key cast members
Kirk and crew are known to the general audience, so there is familiarity there

Granted, I think that a TV Movie or seris of movies would serve the idea better than an ongoing series. Unless they go back to the 'one story over 10 episodes' thing?

but yes. Jumping to Year Four and basically doing an 'official' New Voyages/Continues would work, as well as a post TMP series. plus there's the possibility of Kelvin Four so they don't want to conflict

Some fans do.
Yes, if the fan base is so fractured that there is no sweet spot to justify the high cost of making these shows, the franchise will wither and die. Super Hero movie are in a similar spot because some fans would rather brief against and tear down an adaptation that fails to meet expectations ensuring that nobody gets anything.

SNW grew out of positive feedback and has a feelgood quality so it is possible to marry them but they won't have a good reason to satisfy viewers who just whine and would prefer to rewatch existing content. Engage them positively with constructive ideas and maybe some good will come out of it.

It would be helpful if the studio was more open with its strategic/creative thinking as well, even inviting ideas via online surveys.

Honestly, a lot of those fans that want Legacy expect it to be Picard S4 - with the TNG cast showing up again to do yet another adventure. If they ever did go ahead with it - for EVERY episode you'd have a lot of them going - "Hey why isn't Picard/Data/Riker/Troi/Worf/Geordi/Crusher involved. We KNOW they're still around..."
^^^
And yeah, getting the TNG cast back like that even for one Legacy episode a season wouldn't be enough for these who want the TNG cast back and involved in a story.
