Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Spiderass.jpg

While the pose is pure Spidey, some of those costume details are annoying. It's bad enough that he has shingles instead of webs, but in this shot, they're not even finished there on the boot.

It reminds me of when I used to draw him as a kid--after inking, I'd erase the pencil lines and discover that I forgot to finish the webs on a limb. :p

And the "shingle mask" just sucks.

The more I think about it the more I think this costume is a proto-cosume. One that could be redesigned and refined as the movies progress. The costume as it is now looks like a pretty basic design.

Alright video with some genuinely funny moments, but it's invalidated by its failure to mention Osborne's butler's rather belated confession in #3.

I think it's the weakest of the 3 primarily because it puts plot/action over characterization and has the horribly WTF moment I mentioned above, but it seems I think of it more kindly than many others. Then again, stuff like Peter's dance which many considered OTT I just took in stride.

Peter's dance was in keeping with the corruption of the symbiont...I didn't mind much, but thought Tobey over acted it.

Spider-Man 3 was just a disaster in it's concept and execution. That movie has no endearing moments for me.

I disagree that it was a disaster in concept. They were playing with some really good themes and interesting set-ups.

However, the execution was a disaster.

The Nostalgia Critic is annoying as fuck.

I seriously tried watching it, but, I started stroking out....

Edited to add: or is it the guy with glasses... I don't know... whoever was the smirking a-hole who thinks he's funny... I couldn't even hear what he was saying he made me so mad...

And now back to the thread...

What really disappointed me was their depiction of Venom. I wasn't bothered by Topher's performance...they wrote the Ultimate version of Eddie Brock and combined the 616 version of Venom. Combining the two didn't work. Having Sandman as part of Uncle Ben's murder even if it was meant to be a misdirection was just plain wrong. I felt both Sandman and Venom were useless in this movie. The strongest aspect of the film was Harry and Peter's friendship and the battle between The New Goblin and Spider-Man. I think it would have been a way better film if Rami and the writers decided to focus on The New Goblin. I know Avi Arad forced Venom on him. It showed.

The Nostalgia Criic is a "character" played by Doug Walker who owns/operates the "That Guy With The Glasses" website which includes a few characters of him (TNC, Bum Reviews) as well as Spoony, Linkara and others.

I'm a bit curious as to why Doug confessed he liked SM3 so much when a few of the items on his list were from Spider-man 3! Spider-man 3 was the most guilty of the useless secondary characters, is where the poor potrayal of the Symbiote suit comes from among other things.

And I think that SM3 is so maligned not because of the tone or nature of the movie, as he said it's consistant with the other movies in that regard, but because of the things he pointed out. The dance scene, the poor execution of Gwen Stacey, the strut scene, the poor use of the symbiote suit, the poor use of Venom, the Exposition News Channel, the poor use of Sanaman and on and on and on and on.

It was disliked because of it being just too silly especially considering the subject matter centered around the symbiote suit. As he points out we have this silly dance scene with him in the club and the moments later a dramatc scene with him rejectng the suit. It was poorly executed, pretty much everything in the movie. It had nothing to do with the silliness in it but the ovet-the-topness of it and just the poor execution of every aspect of it.

It was a funny list, I enjou TNC, but I think he has missed the "reasons" why SM3 is so disliked.

I have no problem, actually, with the dance scene. It's silly. There were ALWAYS silly things in each of the movies.

My problem with SM3 has to do with the structure of the film, the portrayal of Sandman (he is OH SO sympathetic, he's only doing for his DAUGHTER), the Butler having to explain everything to the Idiot Harry. Everything felt shoehorned and under conceived. It felt like a bad remake of the first Spider Man movie, really. Shoddy story telling.

As TNC points out the street dance scene was just dumb and out of place. Mostly because it pretty much negates any "negative" aspects of the suit and it's just far too silly.
