Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

Iron Man 2 was a pretty shitty incoherent mess of a film so I'm not sure how great of an argument that is...
I'll just politely agree to disagree with that statement.

I didn't see the Avengers tie-in material as a "mess".
The movie had similar beats and number of action moments.
For me the worst part of the film was drunk Iron Man and even in context of the film it makes sense. His toxicity level was 93% and he thought death was imminent so he was just letting it all hang out.

Regarding Studio interference I'm not quite yet ready to say SONY is going to hit this Spidey film out of the park. The same studio that forced Venom, was going to force a Vultress character isn't getting an instant pass from me.

^IIRC, the forcing of Venom came from Avi Arad, Marvel's producer on the movie. Of course, he's not involved with Marvel's current crop of movies.

I'm really excited for this. One of the key reasons why is that it's clear they're making a conscious effort to give us a different feel than Raimi, which I like... because honestly after the first Raimi film I wasn't feeling it.

I'm a big Raimi fan, and I enjoyed the heck out of the first two films in the theater... but once the thrill of seeing Spidey on the big screen wore off, all I could notice was just how painfully thin and one-dimensional the characters and storytelling were (even on the supposedly more "complex" second movie).

Hopefully this one will correct some of those problems, and give us a slightly richer story.

I just feel like it's being pooped out so that Sony can retain the rights to keep the movie rights to the Spider-man franchise.

You're confusing your contracts. Fox's deal with Marvel is that it has to do something with its licensed characters every few years (three, I think, which is why Marvel Studios holds The Punisher and is trying to develop another film). The deal between Marvel and Sony is different, particularly after its 2009 amendment -- in exchange for giving up all television rights to Spider-Man, Sony has the film rights to the character for something like another ten years or four films, whichever comes first. Sony's got plenty of time to make another Spider-Man film -- I'm just guessing that the studio decided that with the last film having come out in 2007, a five-year gap would be more than long enough.

Gotcha. Thanks.

And it doesn't last long. And even though it was also my least favorite part of the film when I first saw it, it's the film's connection to the classic Demon in a Bottle story arc from 30 years ago.

Yeah, still not feeling it and the costume impresses me less and less the more I see of it.

And this:

Begs for a "Caption Me This"

I never really "feel it" from set photos. They're too unfinished.

I'm holding out until I see a trailer.

It kind of looks like the stunt man's costume. Those aren't designed to be seen that closely on film so they don't always looks too detailed or polished.

The more I see that costume the more I feel like he's wearing a motocross outfit.

While the Raimi outfit looked a bit too stylized perhaps to have been made by a teenager that one looks way to intricate. All 10 fingers with different fabric sewed into another fabric at the wrist then swirled in throughout the arm.

If it's just a stunt man costume why all the detail? Not sold that it's just a stunt man costume yet.

New pics. The first one will lead the more immature of us to make jokes about Spidey spilling his web fluid, green gobblin', missing MJ, swinging both ways etc.

Um, why the dark crotch? Unlike everyone else, I don't have a problem with the REST of the costume, but that is just weird...
