Spider-Man movie (casting, rumors, pix till release)

I dunno. There are lots of resourceful kids these days doing all kinds of things (good and bad most likely)...it's not really that much of a stretch to think that Peter would be able to come up with his own adhesive formula but then again maybe this is why they came up with the organic webshooters in the Rami film because they couldn't justify a broke teenager having the resources to do that.

I seem to recall a version where Peter didn't come up with the webfluid himself, but perfected a formula for an adhesive initially devised by his scientist father. That's my preferred version; it shows Peter is intelligent and scientifically-minded, without asking us to believe that the kid bit by a radioactive (or whatever) spider also coincidentally happens to be a teenage chemical prodigy making breakthroughs in his bedroom.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Didn't James Cameron's treatment also have organic webshooters?

Spider-man also screwed Mary Jane on top of a building too.

Even though the script was terrible i'm sure a James Cameron Spider-man movie would have been amazing. The effects would have been out of this world.

I think that was the idea. It made a bit more "sense" to do it that way and, to me, that makes sense too.

In or out of costume?

It was the Brooklyn Bridge, and it was every bit as bizarre as it sounds:

CUT TO: The Brooklyn Bridge. A stunning aerial shot. A
tiny shape swinging in an arc, racing past the support
cables, sweeps toward us. It is Spidey, with MJ in his
arms. He shoots another web strand, swings to one of the
stone towers, and races up the side. She is light as a
feather in his arms. She screams like a kid riding
Colossus, in fear and exhilaration.

They pass us. Her screams continue, fading as he carries
her up to the dizzying heights above us.

ON TOP OF THE BRIDGE TOWER. Hold a beat. We hear screams
approaching. Spidey appears and sets her on terra firma.
She clings to him, looking down and around in wonder.
He has put the world at her feet.
She can't believe this is happening to her.

In a dizzying down-angle we see how the suspension cables
all meet radially at the top of the tower... like the
treads of some vast spider web. Peter and MJ seem to sit
at the very center of the web, surrounded by the lights of
the city. It is a warm spring night. And the moment is
pure magic.

She stands with her back against a girder, needing to feel
something solid. Spider Man stands before her, a
perfectly formed male silhouette with a soothing low
voice.

SPIDER MAN
Courtship among the spiders is highly
ritualized. It varies from species to
species. The male spider may circle the
female, or wave his front legs... to
signal that he is not prey.

Spider Man moves in a hypnotic arc around her. He raises
his hands in a dance-like movement. Lowers them.

SPIDER MAN
The female usually signals her
willingness by an uncharacteristic
passivity.

MJ takes a deep breath. Her lip trembles. Her knees are
weak. Her eyes, though, are steady, gazing at the
silhouette before her. She doesn't move of speak. He
moves closer.

SPIDER MAN
In certain crab spiders, such as Xysticus,
the male will attach strands of silk to
the female... tying her limbs...

Spider Man moves his hand gracefully across her, and she
sees the sheerest silk webbing glinting in the moonlight.
First one wrist. Then the other. Hypnotic movement in
the moonlight. Her arms are bound to the wall. Her
breathing gets more rapid.

SPIDER MAN
Since the female can break free at any
time, the bonds have only symbolic
significance.

MARY JANE
The male must be very bold... to take
such liberties with the predatory female.

SPIDER MAN
Yes. He is very bold. But he must also
trust her.
(he moves very close)
Close your eyes.

He removes his mask and kisses her. Their mouths very
slowly and very sensuously devour each other.

Peter and MJ are locked together. He is mesmerizing,
gentle, powerful. He pushes up her skirt. They make
love, high above the world. She doesn't look.

that's the Ultimate origin. his dad was working on the formula as well as other stuff and Peter manages to finish it and creates web-fluid.

Not much of a stretch to think that he could come up with something which has eluded all of the techological, scientific and money-laden companies and innovators in the world?

Except that they haven't yet that we know of and this is a comic book not reality and stuff like this is supposed to suspend our belief of certain things. What I was really getting at was that it isn't much of a stretch concerning what we know of Peter's own intelligence level. Granted...the lack of resources that he has at his disposal would indeed raise prudent questions about this.

I seem to recall the 616 Spidey saying that he was able to create the web fluid because some aspect of having spider powers gave him an instinct-type knowledge on what sort of enzymes he'd have to mix together in order to make it.

I had to stop at that Cameron script when the movment of his hands was desciube as "Dance". Aweful. Though, on a plus side, it reminds me of that nifty dancing Spider-man gif.

Here's a short update from Andrew Garfield, in which he confirms that Peter will still be a teen in the movie:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=72655

"We started shooting two weeks ago and then we have Christmas off," Garfield said, "Then we're back into it for, gosh, a fair bit of time... I'm going to have to hibernate into this character for at least four or five months... I feel like a kid in my pyjamas. I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. Again, I don't take it lightly and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next couple of months."

When questioned about the physical workout required for playing the superhero, Garfield again confirmed that his take on Peter Parker is as a teenager:

"I think Spider-Man needs strength, but Peter Parker is still a teenager, you know? That's a very tender balance to figure out. It's very specific what we're trying to achieve in terms of body type and the feeling of that. Rest assured, there's a lot of people helping me with that because I have no discipline in that respect. My father's a swimming coach and I kind of rebelled against that very early on. Any kind of exercise routine has to be cracked with a pretty firm whip."

Hmm... I'm not sure I can buy Garfield as anything younger than 20. Let's hope "teenager" in this case means 18 or 19.
