Does the D5 look more like a predecessor of the D7 then the DSC ships?

I really like the Starfleet ships and the Klingon ships. To me, they show a lot more variety and designs that were explored, and possibly rushed in to production due to the threat of the war.

The version seen in ENT looked like a contemporary of Next Gen-era Klingon ships. As did their Bird of Prey and other Klingon designs.

Don't you know? Klingons don't vary their designs.

might be time for a new thread dedicated to the ships we've seen and will be seeing in star trek: discovery.

but still here are some renders of the USS kerala and a couple klingon ships (veg'largh, "D-7", and bslth) from a VFX artist at pixelmondo.

    loving the kerala:

and props to the veq'largh for actually looking vaguely klingon:

not sure what's going on with the D-7 (#notmyD-7):

    more here.

Huh...so that's the new "D-7", eh? Was kind of hoping that once we saw a full unobscured view of it that it might look better. Seems I was wrong.

yeah every angle we saw it at made it look like a jem'hadar battle cruiser, which i'd actually be ok with. seeing it in plan view, it's clear it's not nearly as sleek or interesting as that ship. and bears even less of a resemblance to a D-7.

they could've easily referred to the veq'largh as D-7 (or 6) and i think we would've accepted it, but this? just no.

Seeing it untextured, that sphere on top kinda makes it look like a tiny fighter with a cockpit.

After the solid job they did with the update of the Starfleet ships I just cant fathom why they would cock up the Klingon ships so badly.

Seeing recognisable Klingon vessels engage with the updated Starfleet vessels in the pilot would have been such a simple easy win.

What makes it worse is that it was an unforced error, if time was an issue all they had to do was retexture the existing D7 models and increase the ship size if necessary to make them appear roughly equal to the updated Starfleet ships.

It really makes me wonder what was going through the designers heads.

I didn't think it was possible for it to get any worse and then I saw the new Birds of Prey. :wtf:

There are also some shots of the Shenzhou (with TOS-style markings, still), as well as untextured renders of the Klingon fighter and Cleave ship on Pierre Drolet's ArtStation.

Maybe it was actually a 'D'sven' class and whatever Starfleeter just pronounced it wrong.

Pretty sure official subtitles said specifically "D7" (someone get a screencap please :)
It was a valentine from producers to fans to call it D7. We are supposed to appreciate and nod "producers are cool, they heard something about a D7 klingon ship, they put it in STD to make us appreciate their work"

But of course... out of universe. But I like to play the 'rationalize it until its rational' game. The out-universe subtitles probably display what you hear on screen and don't correct for mispronunciations. In universe he might have been reading D'sven but says D7, so the subtitles reflect what he says. In universe, someone next to him could have been like, 'Dude, its 'D'sven'...get it together. You're going to confuse someone,' right afterwards off the com.

Don't worry, I too am in the #notmyd-7 club. So much that I will make up these unlikely scenarios to make sure it continues to NOT be a D-7 ^^

I mean it's a nice enough look ship. Side view is pretty cool even if I don't know what those things on the bottom are (they were glowing blue in the episode):
