Pretty exciting news. Hopefully we'll get some hint to the Big Finish audios and/or the Captain Jack meeting everyone (including the two actors) have wanted for a long time.

I love press release speak. (I write press releases as part of my job duties.) The Alex Kingston quote in particular is great; no one speaks like that, and she probably never said anything close to that.

I'm going to add "so-and-so is on glittering form" to my everyday vernacular.

That was exactly the phrase.

I've written things like that when I've had to manufacture a quote for a press release. Most press release quotes have, at best, a tangential connection with reality.

I've had to do the same, albeit in Navy lingo for commanding officers. Some quotes really do stand out as obviously not actually said.

On a serious note I am quite pleased to see she is back. She brings a lot of fun to her episodes so Christmas should be a bit more cheery this year.

Great news! I love River. I agree with what others said, there was some story left to be told and I didn't think we had seen the last of her since there was that hint at the connection between herself and Clara in 'Name of the Doctor'.

I might groan from the cheap seats...depending on which River shows up. Smug, annoying River or interesting Library or Name of the Doctor River? We'll see.

With Clara gone I'll be bummed out anyway and River isn't my favorite character....but if Captain Jack is there too, I just might have my mood changed. I'd love to see 12 interact with Jack!

I really enjoyed Kingston's portrayal of River Song, and I am happy to hear that she will be returning for an adventure with Twelve.

River Song is River Song. I think how a person views a fictional character says a lot about that individual's past experiences (nature & nurture), maybe more so than the actual nature of the character him/herself. A little of a Rorschach Test.

I dated someone who now reminds me a good bit of River Song, in both looks and personality. She was a LOT of fun, but some aspects of her strong, bigger-than-life personality did sometimes get the better of me (isn't that part of any relationship, though?).

Makes me wonder if some River Song type personality was too much of an annoying presence as an overbearing Mom, zany and difficult neighbor, or uncompromising girlfriend, causing River to resonate with unpleasant memories in some people minds.

I find it fascinating....

We were talking about Donna Noble up there. But yeah, I like River myself... except during series 6, where she became excrutiatingly annoying.

But yeah, I like River myself... except during series 6, where she became excrutiatingly annoying.

The problem with River in Series 6 is that she was more plot point than character, especially in "Let's Kill Hitler" and "The Wedding of River Song." I've never disliked Kingston in the role; she (and Matt Smith) made some truly dire material watchable. But Moffat was more intrigued in her as a Plot Macguffin rather than a character, and when he decided she was the daughter of Amy he made her ridiculously convoluted.

I feel there's potential in River's appearance. It's really going to depend on what Moffat wants to do with it.

I just hate that we're constantly told stuff and never shown anything. Her relationship with the Doctor is forced and inorganic. Not once have we seen anything to that would genuinely lead me to believe they have/had/will have a romantic relationship.

Well, bringing her back (with regenerations to spare) would mean she could show up anywhere, anywhen, as anyone. She could even mess with the Doctor via her regenerations.
