Spacematic

PCz911

Captain
Captain
Surfing thru the wiki I came across the cyrano jones "spacematic" ship on k-7 (well, ok, via the ds9 episode). Could only find two very poor images. Does anyone know of any more images? And, what do you all think of it?

Nice ship (and cute shuttlebay)! Reminds me of those old FASA freighter designs. It doesn't look particularly TOSsy or even Trekish, but I like it nonetheless and can picture him zipping around the galaxy in it, schilling substandard merchandise.

Harry Mudd's ride was cooler though, if the ship seen in the new movie is in fact meant to be the same one from TOS, minus it's golden shield:

So, the Spacematic was never seen on screen, correct (TAS "More Tribbles, More Troubles" possibly notwithstanding)?

Or could it be made out in the some of the shots? Those are cool pics, by the way, Maurice.

I'm not certain of this, but I think the word was that the craft was apparently there in the original, but just not able to be seen from the shots of the station they used. When they rebuilt K7 for DS9, they added the Spacematic in and made sure it was noticed.

I'd love to see a close-up of the TOS-R model for.comparison. But I don't suppose there are any pics out there...?

It's a series of moving images projected on a screen.
But that's not important right now. :rimshot:

The ship used in STID was shown to belong to a member of the Mudd family in the IWD comics.
That was a nice callback to TOS. I don't get why it was necessary to throw that in there, unless they meant to set up an appearance of Harry in the next movie.

Say what??? I'm sorry, but this makes absolutely no sense to me.

Can you provide citations for your claims that it there was a model of it made for the original TOS and that it was on-screen in TOS-R?

Memory Alpha would seem to indicate that the model was built for "Trials and Tribble-ations" but was never actually seen in the episode any better than this and this.

Now that I see these screencaps, I'm presuming that the little splotches I see, impossible to make on on TV when it aired, are in fact of the model, which would make the answer to my first question in the thread, "no".

edit - OK, so you are retracting the TOS-R claim, I see. I concur that it isn't there.

Other way around, it wasn't a setup for Harry, it was a callback to their official comic book series (which is a rather obnoxious thing to do I think), In the "Countdown into Darkness" comic series they encounter Harry Mudd's half-Bajoran daughter and impound her ship.

Random thought: given how much trek fans love to make "blueprints" or ship images, it's a wonder that some fan hasn't yet taken this as the subject matter.

I love the name "Spacematic", so retro.

Wow! Your Kung fu is very good. I study at the feet of the master.
Now that I see it.... Doesn't really look very "trek" to my eyes. I suppose it's intended to look a bit run down, like mr jones.

I like that it looks like some kind of shuttle that has had jerry-rigged modifications bolted on to it, which seems very Cyrano Jones.

It looks more like a ship from Space 1999 than something from the Trek universe, hammered together out of spare Eagle and Hawk parts.

You just have to try different search term combinations in Google image search, like:

spacematic K7
spacematic jein
k7 tribbleations model
etc.

I had good success with the first three you suggested, but nothing star trek related came up when I tried the "etc."
