Hi folks! Since SBY (aka Star Blazers) 2205 is just around the bend, I thought it prudent to make a new thread for the new show, as some 2205 content started in the old 2202 thread located here. As with 2202, when more information comes out about the ships, I will, of course, be posting renderings of them for those interested in such things.

As for the new Age of Yamato documentary-style project that's about to be released, I'm kind of on the fence with where discussion on this should go. It probably should stay in the 2202 thread, considering it mostly contains material that's existed up to that point and 2205 is an entirely new thing. I dunno. I'll leave it to the general posters to decide where to continue to put that information.

You may proceed with your general advance. :)

As such, Yamato 2205: A New Voyage, will be put out in two theatrically released films (which will be eight episodes for television). The first part will come out on October 8th.

A new trailer dropped (was the one being shown in theaters):

Lots of returning characters and some new characters shown from Earth and Gamilas factions. And both Bolar the Dark Nebula ships. With new or refit Gamilas ships and a new Earth fighter are seen.

Some new model kits will be coming out in October and November from Bandai of the various carriers from Earth and Gamilas. Mostly the smaller Mecha Colle kits, but there is one 1/1000th scale Earth supply carrier, Asuka, coming out in October.

In theaters showing the Yamato 2202: Age of Yamato film, they will be showing the first 6 to 10 minutes of Yamato 2205 by the end of June. Partly as an incentive for repeat ticket sales. Those will probably get put on Youtube eventually by Bandai Namco before October 8th.

    EDIT:

New talk video about Yamato 2205

Talk about the characters and ships.

One of the new characters...Caroline Raiden....is a returning character from Yamato III. Goro Raiden. A mountain of a man that was part of the training groups' navigation department. This time around she is a Marine and looks like she could take your head off.

I believe the video confirms that Yuki Mori is captain of the Asuka.
Sanada is captain of the Hyuga and Kodai is captain of Yamato.

    Eight episodes? That's disappointing.

Sales from these episodes will likely determine if we get more Yamato.

So the ship ( the Asuka) goes missing (with Captain Yuki Mori on it of course) in the opening/first 5 minutes...got it. ;)

Maybe it will be the reverse? With the Yamato going missing in the first five minutes and the Asuka being the hero ship this time around?

Given the source material, I imagine this story will be heavily Gamilas based. While I am unsure the writer will go this route, I am hoping for some actual character driven plot with Dessler for at least part of this story. The interviews mentions that they will likely try to hit some iconic events and images from the old A New Voyage film, but cast the rest of the story to reflect what has changed since Yamato 2199 started.

So no dead Yuki. Dead Starsha, and maybe dead Yurisha, and maybe even dead little Sasha.....but no dead Yuki

Though not surprising since the story arc it’s adapting was only two films long.

I would much rather have a short, tight, well-crafted story in a short amount of time than a drawn-out plot full of fluff. 2202 (IMO) fell in the latter category but 2199 was perfection. They need to get back to what made the first one great, but with the new story. 8 episodes does seem to be a bit on the short side, but I’m hoping it’s because they constructed a tight story that won’t meander all over the place.

Since this is supposed to be only two chapters, it would make sense to have a chiffhanger in the first one, much like they did in Yamato 2202 with each chapter. The trouble with that in 2202 was that it started to mess with the story flow as the story arcs tended to end the previous episode than start the plot for the next story only to end the chapter. Resulting is needing to resolve the chiffhanger easly at the start of the next chapter before continueing with the plot.

Yamato 2199 chapters tended to attempt to carry a theme or plot that lasted the four episodes to a resolution at the end of the chapter so it could hold its own in the theater. Yamato 2202 had chiffhanger endings to get people into the next release, but the chapter arc tended to resolve three-quarters of the way through and starting up another plot at the end (though they did tend to seed the next plot near the start of the chapter and get back to it at the end). With Yamato 2205 it will depend on just how much of the Dark Nebula plot they intend to tell. If it is basically just a reboot version of the old New Voyage tv movie, this should be more than enough. But if this also goes to attempt the Be Forever, Yamato film plot (without heavy setting changes), this will be too much for just two chapters (8 episodes).

It doesn't look good for Gamilas. And possibly Iscandar. Dessler, Talan, Burger, and Frakken are going to have their work cut out for the in the fleet action before Yamato arrives.

Also we see what appears to be a training engagement between Yamato and Hyuga in a field a wrecked Gatlantis battleships.

I'm rewatching 2199, and, well, stupid question. Before the Wave engine, they didn't have artificial gravity technology?

Either they don't have artificial gravity, or they have it but its a low strength field (or requires a lot of energy and they turn it off for combat). I seem to recall they used magnetic shoes, hand and foot holds for the most part on the pre-Yamato ships we see.

The only time they mention artificial gravity in the first episodes is when they explain it's deactivated in the hangars for convenience. But no one said something like "wow! Now we have artificial gravity too!"

It is possible they had it on low power for Yukikaze, since Mamoru seems to float/leap to his post at the start of the episode. And while it is hard to tell if Kirishima has gravity on at the start, it definitely was off after the ship took damage as you can see blood floating on the bridge. Though when Shima and Kodai are picked up some weeks later, it is possible the gravity is on.

They would need some method to make sure the crew doesn't pancake into the bulkheads even at the speeds they are moving at. Pluto to Mars in three weeks and Mars to Earth in a day or so in the months of January and February of 2199.
