Space Battleship Yamato 2202

They've had no involvement with Yamato, though they did an excellent parody of Dessler and the wave motion gun in an episode of Haruhi in 2006.

KyoAni, in the 80s and 90s did a lot of Background work, Key animation, finishing animation and the like for a number of animated works from Armored Trooper Votoms, Dirty Pair, and Macross to Urusei Yatsura and Zillion.

Well this is shockingly horrific: Man shouting 'You die' kills 33 at Japan anime studio

The only thing else he was heard to have said (he survived) was that "they" stole something from him. I'm assuming he means the studio (Kyoto Animation), but he wasn't an employee.

Was this studio tied to Yamato in any way?
No but they are famous for spearheading several other popular works such as:

Amagi Brilliant Park
Beyond the Boundary
Clannad
Free
Full Metal Panic: Fumofu and Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid
Hyouka
K-ON
Kanon (2006)
Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions
Lucky Star
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
A Silent Voice
Sound Euphonium
Tamoko Market
Violet Evergarden

They are masters of pretty eye candy visuals and artful backgrounds.

Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu is still probably one of the best comedies every made. It has possibly the best timing for the jokes of any animated series I've seen.
I cannot listen to the ending theme for Clannad anymore without crying. They managed to make that show's story powerful enough to do that (well Clannad After Story).
The not mentioned Nichijou is also a very over the top comedy show that has a lot of overly done scenes....you can tell the animators were having fun.

Horrible news, this. I'd never heard of this particular studio before the story broke, but even so...this is now Japan/Nihon's worst-to-date mass murder case.

Back to the original topic, does anyone know when the second half BRD set for 2202 gets released? Haven’t seen anything on Hobbylink, CDJapan or Amazon.co.jp.

.....a universe has died...
Pretty much since they've confirmed that all materials and computers were destroyed which means the loss of everything they were working on or had ever worked on there to add insult to injury.

well you'd hope they kept offsite backups.

No word as of yet, though some are speculating a winter release.

As for KyoAni. They didn't have offsite backups for what was at Studio One. That's technologically and sociologically a new things in Japan. Around only about a year and the older companies haven't really jumped on it yet. KyoAni's been around since the 80s. However they have other studios, so they only lost what was in that one building. The majority of the stuff they lost seem to be their old stuff.

The death toll for the KyoAni arsonist attack has risen to 35 due to two dying from their injuries while in the hospital. 10 people are still in hospitals while the remaining injured have been released.

In a small bit of good news they managed to recover "all the data" off of the place's servers which were in a concrete reinforced room on the 1st floor. As to what that data is they didn't specify so your guesses are a good as mine.

A small consolation from an otherwise dumpster fire of a situation. Glad their hard work wasn’t destroyed.

A Bolar Wars remake or maybe even Yamato New Voyage first, perhaps, if they're rebooting in chronological order from the original? They already kind of changed course on Mamoru's fate from 2199, IIRC, so not sure how a YNV remake will pan out, aside from introducing the Dark Nebula goons.

The production company is on record saying they are going to try to not do more remakes, but original stories. I don't know how that will work out for them, but I can see them using plot elements of New Voyages, Be Forever, Yamato, and maybe the Bolar Wars to come up with a new series or film. I'd like a series based around what Dessler's doing between the events of the end of the war with Gatlantis and were we see him in the Bolar Wars. With a revamped variant of the New Voyages story, since they can't remake that one entirely anyway. Not only is Mamoru's fate different in 2199, but Gamilas' fate is way, way different in 2199. They are an active Empire and power in 2202...and they have at least some access to Earth/iscandar based wave motion technology thanks to the war. While Earth's stuff isn't much more advanced than what Gamilas has, Earth uses its wave motion barrier in a different way, and has more experience with the wave motion gun, than Gamilas has with the Dessler Cannon, though the Dessler Cannon may be more powerful (or at least longer ranged).

though the Dessler Cannon may be more powerful (or at least longer ranged).

but there's only one Dessler canon, (possibly due to ego - only Dessler can fire the Dessler cannon) Earth built a fleet of ships with wave motion guns.

BIG NEWS from Japan: the title of the next Yamato series has been announced in the latest issue of the fan club magazine.

Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage

Coming fall 2020! Harutoshi Fukui returns as the writer.
