Space Battleship Yamato 2202

I'm just happy the ladies of Yamato aren't treated like flawless Marry Sue's, such as the ones given to us in Disney's Star War films and sadly Discovery. I mean one of the reasons Spider Gwen and X-23 are two of my favorite Marvel character is not because they're ladies, but because they're screwed up characters, trying to fight having identity crises. I mean heck Kira is my favorite Star Trek lady, because she has to come to the realization that she's a racist toward the end of season 1 and then spends the rest of the series trying to be a better person. Don't even get me started on my love for the Alien franchise, the first two films in particular.

I do agree that the fan service thing kind of sucks, but don't hate on Akira, because she's awesome and gives me so major Kira vibes from DS9.
You lost me at "Mary Sue". And please, don't start a discussion if this or that character is a "Mary Sue". I deeply loathe this term. I even created a poll on this subject. And I voted "no".

Skipper, we're not saying 2202 is perfect- it's not. We're saying 2202 has steadily improved over 2199 and over previous Leiji Matsumoto stuff, and that we feel confident it will continue to improve.

Look, I had really believed that 2202 was a huge improvement, until the arrival of the Flying Incubator Ginga (Hey! I find a catchy name for the spin-off ) . It really irked me. Anyway, I still watching it, because, well, with all its shortcomings, it's one of the best anime out here (and at least it isn't a Harem Anime....).

Hey, you might not like it, but it doesn't make it any less true. Also I think you are fundamentally wrong when you viewed Starbuck from the BSG remake as a "good female character", because it's clear as day the writers had no idea what they were doing with her. In fact I'd argue they wrote the character as if she was a male, because god forbid we have a strong female character act feminine.

Annnnd you just won a place in my ignore list.

Guys, can we please throttle back the politics just a tad, maybe? There are a million other political threads on the BBS in which such things could be hack-and-slashed ad nauseum. I like that there are a few places like this one (until recently) that conversation doesn’t need to go into the shitter.

The resolution for the Ginga arc should be coming out today (episode 21) on Funimation, with a sort of coda in episode 22 next week, than its off to the end game with Gatlantis.

On Japanese TV, the last episode will air on Thursday/Friday. So maybe we'll see some kind of announcement at that point.

Well, at least the remake (2199) didn't have I09 upskirting Yuki every episode

They toned the horny robot down to zero. Partly because they didn't know what TV channel they might get on, and a few have stricter regulations than others.

But they still stripped her during the first warp jump...

They actually altered that scene depending on where they showed it (odd but they did). The TV version is different than the BD version. BD she gets naked for a flash. On TV down to underwear only (though it lingers there a bit longer...speculated to be a weird standards and practices issue with Toyko TV). If I recall from 2012, several stations were banning the use of upskirts on their airwaves.

I am unsure which version Funimation uses as I've not watched that episode yet with their dub.

The way they've been setting up the Ginga I wouldn't be shocked if it played a part in the next series. They seemed to try to give the ship a rather Star Trek like feel to it. The windows, the ships theme (close your eyes and listen to it and you can imagine it being used for the NCC 1701-D in an alternate universe), the Cosmo-Reverse getting used a bit like the main deflector (you know what I mean), less of a focus on offensive firepower. Also I remember the concept art calling it an exploration vessel, though that may just be the artist's description for it.

So maybe season 3 will have the Ginga going out to explore, rather than being on a mission to save a Earth.

Hopefully though they've sorted the animation troubles. I've seen some clips of the later episodes and it looks like a low budget game for handhelds. I bet the artists were praying the characters wouldn't have to get up from their consoles.

Anyway, I still watching it, because, well, with all its shortcomings, it's one of the best anime out here.

It's such a shame how low that bar is.

Sorry for all the drama people. I just always hate when someone trys to start dumpster fires in places where there shouldn't be any. I'll go back into lurking mode until I finish 2022. Again I apologize for causing any trouble for you here.

Well, at least the characters are adults behaving (usually) in an adult manner and there isn't some social outcast creep who is surrounded by a harem of beautiful girls who find him irresistible for some inexplicable reason...

Don't bring up Sword Art Online here please...;)

Episode 21 is out from Funimation so the Ginga arc should be complete. Plus some of the battle animation budget is there for Andromeda to have some glorious moments.

And a few plot heavy things as the story should head into the End Game arc starting next episode.
