Space Battleship Yamato 2202

Side note: was in Japan this month. I flew Skymark Airlines at one point, hoping to fly the SBY-branded plane. I didn't, but it was right next to my gate when we landed! :D

Other than that, sadly there wasn't much SBY stuff around that I could see. Aside from the occasional poster in the anime shops, and a very small display of the new ship models in Akihabara, there wasn't much to gush over this time.

So the Gatlantis watched 2199 too? Would love to see their live reactions. :P

Anyway, them knowing about what the Yamato did explains why they'd be dedicating a lot of effort to take it out. You don't want the a ship that took down an empire running around when you're nearby. It looks like the Gatlantis got their idea for using the artificial sun as a weapon from, ironically, Yamato during the Battle of Balun. It also seems like the Calakmul destroyed themselves firing the big blast at Yamato in episode 6, which would fit the Gatlantis MO.

Well, through means I can't discuss I have managed to see (and understand) the first six episodes of SBY2202. The Gatlantis/Comet Empire story line is my favorite one of the original SBY trilogy - and WOW for me they're doing an even better job retelling this part then they did with SBY:2199. (They are resorting to some older style anime tropes here and there that I saw them using less in 2199 - but it's still an amazing retelling so far.)

I LOVE that there's a 'cost' to the use of the COSMO DNA Reversal technology; and I like how they use it to explain why Earth suddenly has such a huge number of Andromeda Class ships. Although I also have to say with the military technology the Gatlantians are shown to possess - I wonder WHY Dessler was shown antagonizing them in 2199 because (IMO) even at full strength, the Gamilons would have still been greatly outclassed,

I am still REALLY annoyed English subtitles weren't provided for the release of this part of the series; and if a legitimate release (either subbed, dubbed or both) becomes available I will still pick it up but for myself Bandai is really screwing the pooch on that score; but if they are doing a concerted effort to do a Hollywood production of Yamato (which, even though I myself am a big fan, I don't think it will ever have a large enough appeal to mainstream audiences ) and all the tie in, etc. (these two series being part of that); I may not be alive by the time it comes to fruition (if it ever does because there have been 3 attempts to do something like this over the past 40+ years, and it's why the Japanese made their own big budget (for their local film industry) version as the Holloywood attempts failed or were mired in development hell.

I hope the source I found continues to do what it's did for the first two chapters so I can see and understand the rest of the story. I LOVE it so far.

Well at the moment (12 minutes into episode 7) we have three Earth units against 15000 warships that are preparing to vaporize Earth from outside the regular edge of our solar system. We have Hijikata who is trapped in his HQ. We have the fighter pilots who are doing recon, and we have Yamato, which is hiding at the moment. So unless someone is sending in the fleet, all they got is one wave motion gun and a crew reluctant to fire it.

Really liking the more subdued intro music.

Zordar has taken a page out of the Cylon Imperious Leader's playbook for sitting on an impossibly tall pedestal!

I like that they decided to make an iconic musical piece an actual part of the show by having the organ being played for Zordar as he watched Yamato operating against his own forces.

That ship cannon is something like 15000 ships with an estimated 2.5 million ships to come out of warp to complete it. 2.5 millions disposable battleships. To blow up a single planet from something like 3000 AU away (17 or so light-days distance). Disposable. All those ships will likely burn out during the blast, just like the six battleships that carved a gash into Planet XI were nearly vaporized after firing it at Yamato.

The question will be, where does Zordar get all these ships? They seem to be a new thing considering the Gamilas fleet flew right into one of them in the first episode. Though we only really got the Earth reaction to the ship. One hopes that these numbers will evaporate by the time of the final battle with the Earth fleet...or the Earth fleet will show itself to be just awesome even with only hundreds of ships against thousands of ships.

One can assume Zordar has many planets building for him, multiple temporal anomaly shipyards like Earth has, or maybe he just has one, but its both massively larger and the time difference is more like 100 or 1000 to 1, so he could build 100 to 1000 years worth of ships in just a year. And its been over three years since Gatlantis' ships first encountered Yamato.

The episodes have been released in theaters in Japan for three weeks, as well as on some Japanese streaming sites. The Blu-Ray will be out sometime next month for those that don't get them at the theaters.

Seems to be a lot of cross problems between Yamato and Gatlantis and rebel Gamilas.

However there is something to look forward to for Chapter 4
Episode 11 gives rise to a blue man, with a blue ship, leading some blue men against Yamato.

So...
a Blue Man Group then? (Or a 'Blue Shadow') ;)

Well yeah, that's happening.

Blue man group and warping large missiles for episode 11

And if you can't see it there, try this one: http://nicoviewer.net/sm32185533
Don't like how they changed the Gamilas warp effects. Really overall I'm disliking the 2202 effects compared to 2199's. Oh well, hope we get some good shots of Dessler's new ship, and it seems like the Gostok missiles will be replacing the space mines.

Simplified effects perhaps. Even Yamato warping out isn't quite as impressive even though it does still have ice coming off the hull.

 Words cannot express. So...

On a more serious note, does this mean Voyager has thrown in the towel then? Maybe Funimation will actually finish 2199 as well. Inquiring minds want to know.

Well I found this

http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/news...-blazers-space-battleship-yamato-2199/.123583

Looks like its 1) a Dub, and 2) Sounds like it will be the whole show.

And now I'm really happy the VRV premium package I got covers Funimation, becuase it looks like I gets to watch this.
